Help with choosing phone for DS!!
I need some advice on choosing a mobile for my DS. He is starting to go out and about a bit more and I want to be able to call him to check up on him!! I was just wondering which PAYG network is best and if you have to top-up each month as I don't want to have to keep putting on £10 each month just to make sure that it still works. He wont need to make calls to me.
Any help greatly received!
Thank you.

If you do not already have spare handset in the family have you considered a cheapo contract? This company appear to be legit, my mate has used them and read a couple of good reports on here. The best deal they are doing at present gets you a handset for under £5 a month, you'd probably spend that on a handset plus occasional top ups to keep the SIM active.

The only drawback is that it is cashback, but I bet as a mum you are organised with calendars? These deals basically rely on people not getting sorted and applying for the cashback. You usually just have to send in photocopies of a couple of bills within a specific time frame IIRC (use recorded delivery just in case).Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -

Or you could avoid faffing about with Cashback and time limits and posting dates etc, and get the £5 per month contract from Orange. You get a free phone, and 50 minutes & 50 texts for £5 a month (36 months).
Alternatively, get a SIM card with Asda, which is the cheapest for calls/texts. As long as he makes 1 chargeable call every 90 days, it will stay active. Pick up a cheap phone off eBay for ~£10 and he's good to go.The quickest way to become a millionaire is start off as a billionaire and go into the airline business.

If you have coverage i would consider 3 . £10 every 90 days and you can skype from the pc for nothing0

my husband is on o2 payg.
when he tops up, he gets to draw a suprise (which is an extra treat, although usually 35 extra texts or something like that)
he gets x amount of free messages if he tops up before a certain date anyway. o2 have good perks like the 'o2 blueroom' a chance to enter presale for any tickets at the o2 arena, plus access to the o2 lounge when you get there. good if your son is into music and shows.
orange are good as they have the orange wednesday.
not sure what other perks other networks have, tesco and asda phones seem to reward customers too.
hope this helps:j0 -
Why do people persist with this stupid darling thing DS.DD
Its childish
Just say Son its not that much more effort to type on a keyboard
or perhaps its a phone for a Nintendo games system?
Why not use the 'Vent' or 'Discussion Time' boards for their dedicated purposes?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -

My youngest,he is 10,has a payg on Tesco Mobile. When topped up with £10 he is given £20 extra as free credit.
The free credit only lasts a month, which he normally uses calling home and his mates.
Very rarely does he use the original £10 top up.which means some months we do not need to top up his phone.0 -

I would get your son a Tesco Lite sim. http://www.tesco.com/mobilenetwork/payasyougo.aspx?page=84
Calls are 8p a minute and texts 4p.
I got one for my 10 year old grandson and a £10 top-up can last him a year.0
