I also have an Iceland bonus card but all they ever send me is rubbish coupons like "save 20p when you buy ridiculously overpriced branded stuff that you could get for half the price elsewhere" :rotfl:0

Hi,
I have a £5 off £50 Sainsbury's coupon, one that was issues at their till-point machines. I tried to use it in Tesco today and was refused, with them telling me they wouldn't accept it because it was a "till voucher" not one I was "posted".
Is this right or was I being spun a line?
Thanks0 -

I thought these were accepted by Tesco - I have used several in different stores and had no trouble at all. I checked first at Customer Services and was told they were fine. I would try a different store - if all else fails go through the Self Scan as these coupons do seem to scan and don't need manual input.ELITE 5:2

I am confused. Why would Tesco accept a Sainsbury voucher?
Because they think they would be stealing a customer from Sainsbury's.
The voucher is given to attract the person into Sainsbury's, to take advantage of the money off. Tesco, by accepting the voucher, "steal" the customer from Sainsbury's.
Tesco have accepted vouchers from other stoeres for ages, but they are cracking down on them now.0 -

At the moment is is Tesco company policy to accept certain conditional spend coupons, and Sainsburys ones are on the accepted list. As this is company policy it is not supposed to be changed by individual stores.
If you send an email to Tesco's head office they will probably tell the store to accept it and will probably also send you a £5 money card as an apology.

I believe it is at discertion of the manager.
It always has been with vouchers for goods not purchased even though it was suppose to be national policy to accept them.
So can only assume it is the same with these vouchers.
My local tescos would not accept one with out buying the product.

I used a Sainsbury £2 off £20 spend today in Tesco - made sure I spent over £20, no problem at all. I actually go into Sainsbury to buy my tea bags and get one of these vouchers, love being paid to buy things! What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

Are they obliged to accept them,
No - it is not their voucher so they do not have to accept them. When they do so, they do it for commercial competive reasons i.e. they'd rather give you the discount than you spend the money in the 'other store'.
One of the 'commercial reasons' is the the other store should be a close competitor e.g. you go into one Tesco - it says 'no' go to another it says 'yes' because it is nearer to the 'other store'.I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0
