Surround Sound System

Options
Hope someone can help me. Last month I brought a 32" LG LH2000 TV from sainsburys http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/sol/shop/technology/footballfever/113754175_lg_32_hd_digital_lcd_tv.html?hnav=4294959604

I am now looking to get a 5.1 surround sound system for the TV so as the surround sound works with the TV and my xbox and not just through the DVD, if that makes any sense? I hope someone can help me, I'm starting to think such a system doesnt exist!!!!:(

Not sure I fully understand the issue, your TV has optical out so any half decent AV amp will have multiple optical inputs, connect your TV/xbox/DVD outputs to the amp.

    I have the 5.1 version of this:http://www.cambridgeaudio.com/summary.php?PID=493&Title=Azur+650R+7.1+HDMI+1.3+AVR+

    Paired with these:

    And highly recommend.

You didn't mention a budget of course but as above I'd highly recommend a separates system. Buy a good AV amp, and you can reuse any speakers you have around the house to get you started if you need to. 2 fronts and 2 rears, and try to buy a subwoofer. You can then add a centre speaker later. What's your DVD player?

Hi, I completely agree with almillar, go for seperates. If you buy a budget system you will find out there are limitations to what you can do and with the qualiy. You will soon be disappointed with its performance.
I purchased a £500 AV reciever 10 years ago ( 5 x 100 w RMS /channel ) and bought decent speakers over the next year. It is still going strong and does still everything I need it to. Personally 7.1 is too much for a small room.

Hi, £54 wouldn't even buy you one half decent speaker. Even if this unit fulfills your needs when you buy it , as soon as you want to input anything else you will find out its limitations. Once you have heard a decent system you will realise that you are just wasting your money on this 'system?'.
I used to repair and install tv's and home cinema kits and remember the disappointment on peoples faces when they realised they had bought rubbish. If you cannot afford to spend more wait until you can. Sorry if this sounds harsh but I cannot stand waste.
The Sony amp on spikes link would be a good starting point towards building a better system.

Use the £200 for just an amp and have a look round your home or friends and family for speakers, any old cack will do for rears to start with. When you get £100 together, buy a subwoofer, this will get you started nicely with stuff that doesn't have to be replaced. eBay can be very good for this stuff. Look for subwoofers near you. I had to pay postage on mine and it was still a good price.
