Oh this thread has made my day...I bought a wedding mag the other day only to get an idea of the more simple dresses so I can hunt something donw in sale/discount outlets...am probably going to buy a BM dress for myself anyway as I may be wearing purple. But looking thru the rest of the mag I got seriously scared at how much some people are paying...and then seriously jealous that they can!! This is my 2nd wedding - that was done relatively low key as will this one. tbh I hadn't even heard of half the things they go on about now...am totally in agreement with your !!!!!! to chair covers!
Sparklewitch...your Italian wedding sounds absolutely fantastic. PLEASE make sure you come back and tell us about it, preferably with pics. I adore Italy and am going green reading what you're doing!

    no chair covers,

I have to agree, I really don't like chair covers at all.
They look a bit naff imo, and once people are sitting down, who cares?
I've seen places charging around £3.50 per cover. Waste of money imo.

£250 budget? What's wrong with that?

£100 grand is an obscene amount to spend on a wedding though ~ I've not seen a wedding on 4 weddings with that budget before though.

They are used because some chairs look a bit naff.

Some chairs can be rusty, ripped, different sizes and shapes etc, and the covers just tie them all in together.
Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...

I think we're kinda having most of the fiddly silly things, favors, magician (if I get my way! thin Derren Brown, not bunny out of hat) but we're doing it all on a £6K budget. No dessert or chair covers though :D

No photographer (guests asked to take photos and cd-roms provided for them to download - hate having my photo taken anyway, especially posed photos)

No Favours (had no idea what they were when I started planning, had to google to see what all the fuss was about)

No special Wedding cars (Friend driving parents Jag for us)

No table dressing or chair covers (venue looks fine as it is when tables are set and I didn't even notice the chairs so they can't be that bad!)

No spending ££££'s on dresses (mine was £45 off ebay and I washed it in the washing machine...DISCLAIMER - you take a chance doing this and I wouldn't have done it if it had been silk!! Bridesmaid dress £20 off ebay and mens waitcoats from Matalan sale)

Doing my own flowers (can't believe some of the prices quoted for bouquets. No extra flowers planned for church either, its beautiful anyway)

No livestock, pipers, chimney sweeps, fireworks, lanterns, fire breathers (yes I did go to a wedding where there was one!), magicians etc etc etc

For anyone having any/all of the above then its your day and you'll love it, personally its just not for me and I hate being made to feel by glossy mags that my day will be any less enjoyable without them. :)

I just cant be dealing with all the rubbish in the mags!!
were going to abroad with our kids and immediate family. The wedding will take place at a small chapel right next to a stunning beach, were having a few photos of everyone taken then we will have a nice meal together. A few days later the family fly home me and hubby fly away on a honeymoon.
my daughters will be brides maids and I wont be buying traditional dresses for them as I dont really like any I have seen.
my dress I dont know. Im just hoping to find one I actually like lol.
    All nice and relaxed.
