To get a good ideas of any area I would suggest going to the local police station and speak to the neighbourhood officer covering that area. He/she will have alot of knowledge of what you can expect. They are there to help.Middlers0

As a closely related but independent clause, I reckon there should a semicolon between 'Portchester' and 'note' not a comma.0 -
Hiya,
I use "upmystreet" to give me a bit of background on an area - it may not always be 100% right but it's something to start with.
Entry for PO1 1EF as follows:
Neighbourhood Profile
PO1 1EF
Often, many of the people who live in this sort of postcode will be families and single parents living in council flats. These are known as type 52 in the ACORN classification and 0.86% of the UK's population live in this type.0 -

I live in Portsmouth, and I question what you are actually looking for? If you're into the younger/student/shares area Southsea is the place, big terraced houses - but expect parking to be a pain in the !!!. The seafront is very nice (and expensive), but very difficult to get out of the city.
I've just bought, and went for Milton (east of Southsea), it's a family area and quite close to the city - I can walk from the clubs if I needed to. However, prices are rather high compared to what you can get in Waterlooville and places like that - but for me, there is just nothing to do there.
Another area to avoid is Weacock (in Waterlooville).0
