Locked into poor contract - help!

Hi guys,
About 15 months ago I signed up with Onetel unlimited, on a years contract.
Around 10 months in, I called to downgrade my package to the "limited" (2gb a month) package to save some money, while waiting for my contract to expire.
A month or so ago I called to ask when my contract finished, and ask for a MAC code to transfer...Was told that when I downgraded I entered into a new 1 yr contract! This downgrade was done over the phone and the (African?) woman on the phone didn't mention this.
Needless to say I'm not happy - the prices are expensive for this speed, etc. Can I get out of this one?

Did you not ask? Unless you're willing to pay out of the contract then you're pretty much tied down.0

Hello Sinclasc,
It seems unethical that they would lock you into a new 12 month contract without explaining this to you.
One thing to explain is that if you were changing speeds a year ago the company may have incurred charges by BT to regrade your speeds. However if you didn't change speeds, you just changed profile type, there isn't an obvious reason why they would lock you into a new 12 month contract (ie. they wouldn't have to recoup the regrade costs).
Have a look at theircode of practice here . There is a lot of information on how to complain and what your rights are.
Best of luck!
Kind regards,

I telephoned tesco boardband today and asked what they could do to reduce my bill from 17.97 a month.. they said i could sign up for tesco value at 13.97 a month but would have to go into my account online as there is a box to tick to show you are entering into a new contract. they would not do this over the phone.
You have not been informed or signed anything so ring back and ask to speak to a manager.0
