Can I claim Jobseekers Allowance?

I had a baby 9 months ago and my maternity pay ran out last week. I want to look for a job but I need to work it around my baby as Im not going to put her in childcare. The work I would look for would be something I can do at home while she has her naps or in the evenings when she goes to bed. Can I claim jobseekers allowance for this?
Also what would happen if I decided to go self employed as I make crafty type things and would like to sell them eventually - would I have to pay back any of the JA or would I just cease to receive it?
ALSO (sorry!) I dont want any of this to affect my child allowance - it obviously would affect my tax credits but thats ok as I only get £10 a week as my husband earns £28k.
Many thanks

You might be able to claim JSA(C) but it will be based on your NIC's over the last two relevant tax years. When did you last work for an employer? Or, have you been paying class 2 NIC's?I had a baby 9 months ago and my maternity pay ran out last week. I was working full time up until JUne 2009 - earning about £1000 a month after tax....0

How many hours do you feel you will be available for work?Gone ... or have I?0
-
Not many - about 6 hrs0

You are not going to meet the JSA conditions if you limit your hours so much. Is there no way that your husband can help out more? If he could take responsibility for baby in the evenings, there is no reason why you cannot actually go out to work for a few hours.Gone ... or have I?0

Do you really think that you can justify claiming or receiving over £60 a week when you are only willing to work for 6 hours a week without leaving your home? What would be the incentive for you to look for a job for those 6 hours when you would probably earn less than JSA. If you want to try and earn a little extra while at home with your baby and fitting it around her then that is great, but you are not really available for work as far as the criteria for JSA are concerned are you?0
