what happened to the 'kicked out' thread?

where's the thread where the lady with a decent household income but high debts hadn't paid a penny's rent in 4 months despite the low rent of approx £350 pcm?
where she was surprised to be served an eviction notice by the landlord and be turned down for a council house by the local council?
where she was equally stunned that paying a modest top up for the next 2 years plus on top of her future rent might not prevent the eviction?
where she blamed the agent for not aggressively following up on the arrears so therefore encouraged her not to pay?
who was unconcerned that she'd exposed her guarantor to a debt of approx £1500 for her rent because she'd spent the money furnishing the place?
who denied the accuracy of her original statement of accounts saying she'd accidentally made it look like the household had an extra £800 per month income, it was just a typo that the income looked so high?
did we breach forum rules by not being nice enough because the consensus was she was irresponsible and reckless with her budget and because our sympathy lay with the guarantor and the landlord?

Perhaps someone reported me for my less than sympathetic post on that thread? Or maybe the OP requested that the thread got pulled once they realised people weren't going to be swayed by her alleged sob-story. Anyway, I think I read that the situation had got "sorted" somehow. Probably by the guarantor whipping out their wallet, poor sod.0

i was looking for the same thread this morning!
hopefully, if she did get it sorted, they will realise that they cannot afford to live in such luxury and will sink back to the debt free board

You sound surprised by her attitude. You should try dealing with council and HA tenants who run up thousands in arrears, spin a sob story to the judge about trying to get their lives together, and being given one last chance by soft judges, over and over.Been away for a while.0

I have a relative like this who has coasted and pratted about for years (frequently being bailed out by my own parents) and still, at the age of thirty, can't get it into her thick skull that PAYING YOUR FLIPPING RENT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN YOUR NAFFING CABLE TELLY!!!!
I therefore stayed very very quiet on the original thread because I was liable to be a lot stronger in my choice of words than the posters on there were.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
I had an unemployed friend who was anxious how she could pay her mortgage as her savings were running out. She was tearful after contact was made by a debt collector for an unpaid household bill. She’d just had a lengthy holiday in Asia which she paid for with a loan.
Her frequent complaints about how poor she was resulted in her friends rallying round by fixing up her PC, car and flat, decorating and furnishing it, paying some of her household bills and trying to cheer her up by taking her out and picking up the tab. They could not do enough for her.!
She refused to collate her debts, produce a budget or speak to a debt advice charity. She did not replace her lodger after they left.
When challenged about spending thousands on a holiday when her friends were subsidizing her, she said that's what friends do and a chance to go to Asia was a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Some people just feel entitled to a particular standard of living and don't feel any obligation to live within their means - they're successful at getting other people to foot the bill. They are infantalised, adept at cushioning themselves from economic reality by exploiting others. They don’t need to take responsibility for their actions as its always someone else’s fault and its up to other people to fix their problems.0 -

jowo i think you are describing my latest ex - tenant (LHA of course)
I was under the impression that part of the official motivation to switch from HB to LHA was specifically to empower the tenant by paying them directly instead of the landlord, making them personally responsible for sorting out their budget and forcing them to take full responsibility for it?
I thought this was the explicit reason - namely that under HB the tenants tended to be completely passive in the tenancy process, tending to see it as a responsibility between landlord and local council, and seeing arrears or payment issues largely as not their problem to resolve...
Obviously that's not your experience of your slopey shouldered tenant. How did they find their next accommodation given their terrible attitude? Probably they landed onto an amateur landlord who didn't screen them and so who is probably going to evict them in the future for non-payment.
Here's the official bumpf on this
"Give greater personal responsibility – empowering tenants to learn how to budget their own finances better;
- Promote financial inclusion – encouraging tenants to understand the banking system (such as setting up an account, standing orders etc.);
- Remove barriers to employment – the government are actively encouraging welfare to work programmes (with ‘in-work' benefit schemes in operation);"
LHA also has an essential part to play in “empowering people to budget for and to pay their rent themselves, rather than having it paid for them”, which “helps develop the skills unemployed tenants will need as they move back into work”.0 -
Jowo - am i allowed to say "round things" - in response to the above "official bumpf"?
This Ex tenant of mine on LHA chose to spend her money on renting a field to accommodate her 18.5 hands high horse, feeding it, paying vets bills, etc etc
she did not pay one penny in water bills in 18 months; her electricity consumption was so high the automated meter reading service simply refused to accept it when i called in the end of tenancy readings; she bought a new phone line from yet another supplier days after being given notice of eviction by the courts - she did not pay the new supplier either; she owned and insured 2 vehicles; she constantly left all lights and TVs on whenever she went out;
and she had 2 kids.... you could not make this up....
lets see - get money from government to house children.. no... let spend it on horses and cars and overseas holidays.......
Legalised Theft.......
there is something VERY wrong with the system of housing assistance in our country at the present time ..
In fact i think housing policy is worse than in the times of Cathy Come Home.....
rant over for today0 -

Sounds familiar - I was listening to dole scroungers discussing the latest apps on thier iphones the other day and whether to go to Tenerife or Algeria on holiday. Thats where my 40% tax goes.....0 -
Wow, that's amazing, Clutton.
Your story beats my landlord mate who has just spent more than 7k fixing up a property that was leased to Brighton and Hove council under their private sector leasing scheme to accommodate chav tenants (sorry, vulnerable needy tenants) on their waiting list and got it back after the last ones with a tumultuous relationship had punched holes through most of the doors and windows (i.e. abusive and anti social), who terrified the neighbours and where a box of crap was slung into the garden. The council had to send contractors in to remove the garbage they'd left in the property and patch up the worst of the damage.
The tenants refused to move out at the end of the lease and the council housing officer indicated that the local court would not give them a possession notice anyway, since it breached the human rights of the household to be evicted when they had children.
So the council rehoused them despite the fact they cost both the landlord and the council and arm and a leg, breaching all sorts of clauses in the tenancy agreement...0
