Virgin Media Cancellation Fees...

Hi there,

I have recently moved home to an address that already had broadband access pre-installed. As I was with Virgin Media at my last residence, i obviously called them up to request a disconnection...

(I know this subject has been nearly reviewed to death, but I'd just like some up-to-date info, and possibly any tips or advice for my situation!)

Now, I am aware of the recent change to pricing T&Cs clause which gets you out of paying the termination fees, but I called them prior to that date (maybe up to a week before the 20th of March?), so I guess I missed the boat there.

The actual problem: I am a bit confused about the subsequent bills I've received. The first after cancellation was for a total of £37.01:

Partial Month's Service, 20 March-23 April (-)£22.66
30 Day Notice Fee, 20 March £16.00
Contract Termination Fee Internet, 20 March£43.67
=£37.01

I've received another bill today, with exactly the same charges, and the space of 11 days between debits from my account!

What exactly am I paying for here? And is it normal procedure for such a short space of time between bills?

I can't understand why I am being charged what seems a disproportionate amount, surely the charges should roughly equate what I would've been paying anyway (which has been £20). And finally, what's the deal with the 30 day notice fee- I would've thought this was a one-off thing?

I would ask VM about all this, but after having various experience with their shockingly poor customer service, I might as well just throw £20 into a food processor for all the good it will do me calling their expensive lines, only to be cut off or fobbed off!

Thanks for your help!

@kwikbreaks - Yep, both identical, and I only ever had the BB package with them, no phone line.

It sounds like an admin screwup if both bills really were identical. If there were different my guess would be that there was one for each service - phone and internet.
  • what is this change in tandc pricing you refer to meaning you dont have to pay a cancellation fee? i recently phoned them to cancel my services as they wanted to charge me the same for supplying me less and got a final bill today with a disconnection fee of 114 pounds 57 is for telephone and 57 is for broadband cant understand why your disconnection fee is lower than mine either surely the amount should be the same for every one??

It turns out that my issue was related to an Admin error as kwikbreaks suggested. Good thing I looked into it though, Virgin told me that although the invoice was showing on their system, it hadn't registered as a bill?? They also told me that my DD had been cancelled, but it hadn't....So as far as VM go, it's best to be sure, I think!

Mine was only the Broadband package (L I think, which I was only paying £20-25 for), my final bill was £37.01 minus the services as I stated in the main post. Might be worth giving them a call to find out exactly what you're paying for. (I was also only a few months away from the end of my contract).

By the way, the change in pricing; have a read through this thread, it's worth knowing....

With prices that high it sounds to me like you were cancelling inside your minimum contract period.
