    I suppose it depends on the type of fish you have. If you chuck all the water out, you may end up losing the fish as it takes a few weeks for the tank to restabilise itself, plus fish get very stressful when moved so the less change, the better.

    We bagged our fish up and borrowed some big water carriers from our local fish shop and transported the whole lot in one go. As soon as we got to our "new house", water went straight in, heater, filtration back on and carefully replaced the fish. luckily we didn't lose any :D

    We have tropical fish which aren't as valuable I suppose as marine fish.Thanks for the tip about borrowing water carriers original water as possible.Thanks
