It is fast, but I won't be using it as a replacement for Safari. Pages aren't as easy to navigate as the zooming feature isn't as good as the one in Safari. It also renders smaller text as squiggles that you have to zoom in to read.
Also, all your data is sent to Opera before it is sent to your phone. So if you visit your bank's website, it's cached on Opera's servers. In fact, if you visit any encrypted web page, Opera's servers play piggy in the middle, and decrypt all your encrypted content before encoding it in their proprietary markup and sending it back to you.
So if you really like Opera, I still wouldn't suggest using it on the iPhone for anything sensitive.
Well said.
It is something that many people are totally unaware of. It should be plainly stated exactly how it works the first time it is run.
I will use it for 'normal' browsing - but not until they sort out problems like the rapid zooming etc.0 -
Just incase you're interested I only laughed because it was hypocritical. I'm not following you, you're just paranoid. (But that doesn't mean they're not out to get you)0

Ah just read the review
Opera uses different way of transferring data to iPhone, before it transfers it produce a zip file and send to iPhone, when it reach iPhone it unzip the contents. Not exactly zip some other technology like zip.0 -

So in fact the iPhone to Server connection is actually http, only Opera's server to the Bank is https? This is an important point to know, for sure. It would mean that connecting over a public WiFi is especially insecure!
Next question: how and where are one's passwords stored?0 -

I think they both serve different purposes. When your on Wifi and not worried about data usage and speed, Safari would be fine. If you're on mobile internet where you might have a limited/pay per megabyte package, or a slow connection, the compress and forward feature of opera mini would be great, provided it's nothing sensitive.
I wonder if there'll also be a release of opera mobile on iPhone at some point.
Edit: Also, apparently the latest verion of Opera Mini (which I assume is what's available for the iPhone) does support encryption, so you don't have to worry about the transmission between the opera servers and your phone being intercepted. Opera are still technically able to view the unencrypted information though, so if you don't trust them it's still not suitable for online banking, etc.0
