How to get rid of flys?

Our fault for being ignorant, I know, but we had builders in almost a month ago and as they haven't finished the room yet have had the door shut on the mess and barely gone in there.
This morning I did go in as I noticed a funny smell and found a carrier bag with rotting burger wrappers and beer cans in it covered in flies and maggots..not nice at the best of times but especially not when you have raging morning sickness!lol.
Having removed the offending item and given the floor a good clean, what more can I do to get rid of the flies? The room seems to be full of them.
Many thanks.

I'd be tempted to use the dreaded fly spray on this occasion - with door and windows closed.
I hate the stuff, it kills friendly spiders and may not be good for us either.
So perhaps first try some other things like:
They may go out of an open window if you're lucky - open as wide as possible, and as night falls they may decide to go outside.
For the odd annoying fly we get indoors I prefer to spray them individually with kitchen anti-bac spray - this brings them down - then I 'dispose' of them with a cloth. Mind the curtains, etc.:D0 -
You could leave the windows open, as the previous poster said, but maybe you could put something tantalising outside to attract them out - jam or something maybe?
What do flies eat?
I would probably try the window option first - I hate picking up the collection of dead flies. eurgh!!!
Either that or seek the employ of a bloody big spider....Am not witty enough to put something cool and informative here:o

Well it's a well sealed door..hence we hadn't noticed them before as they had no way to get into the rest of the place!
I too hate fly spray and am loathe to use it as we have a small baby in the hous, and I am pregnant too.
Should I just open both windows, close the door, and leave it for a few days?
(easier said than done as after that discovery I just want them all out right now!LOL)
oh, but lol at 'bloody big spider' , that would be ideal! I have a friend with a pet snake, but guess they have a more sophisticated diet!?Membre Of Teh Misspleing Culb0 -
Ooh sticky fly paper as well of course, forgot about that.
As long as you don't mind removing them once they're stuck. Can't stand that.Am not witty enough to put something cool and informative here:o

Eek can you just throw the whole thing in the bin? My OH will do it anyway, but still...yeuch.Membre Of Teh Misspleing Culb0

Make the room as dark as possible, when it's still light outside, obviously leaving the window clear and open. The flies will go to the light.0

Put the bag in your neighbours garden...the flies will all migrate
Other than that buy a fly swatter and relieve some tension. 0 -
Lol at some of your comments, thanks!
I'd forgotten I'd posted this.
There are still a fair few of them in there!
I'm despairing.Membre Of Teh Misspleing Culb0 -
You think you've got problems? I woke up to find my house full of Boeings and Airbuses because my wife left the landing light on...
If the room has a really good seal on the door then why not simply close the windows and empty half the contents of a can of fly spray into the room then close the doors? That's what I did with my parents' static caravan which had quite a few flies in it when I opened it up after the winter shutdown at the site. Then I simply hoovered up the bodies. Job done in 30 minutes.
