Hi there,
Need a bit of help here!
Have just bought my first house with my boyfriend. We have got a combi boiler AND an economy 7 box upstairs - is this normal??
In the kitchen is a Baxi combi boiler which is in good condition and fairly self explanatory instructions wise!
Can easily turn it off so that we only have hot water and no heating whilst we are not living there yet.
HOWEVER, even when we have the heating off, the radiators still come on at 7pm.
After searching the house we found this Economy 7 box in the airing cupoboard. The tank is in the loft.
I dont know very much about these things so any help would be appreciated. I really just want to know if there is a way of turning off this economy 7 box completely as I have no idea how else to control the heating - the combi boiler should do everything, which it does as we have tested it!
By the way-tried turning the box switch to 'off' - radiators still came on!!

Economy 7 generally powers storage heaters. Nothing to do with wet radiators, which are heated by hot water from your gas combi.
And even if it did, E7 hours are generally midnight to 7am, so the rads would not come on at 7pm.
Probably the E7 box was not removed when the gas CH was installed.
Bit puzzled as to why you say there is a tank in the loft. if you have a combi, then hot water is supplied on demand-there is no tank with stored hot water.
Make sure you are not still on an E7 tariff, because if you are you will be paying a premium price for all your peak rate consumption.
It's amazing how often people upgrade from storage heaters to gas CH, but fail to remove their E7 installation. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Check that your electricity meter is the correct one, and not set at 2 or 3 rates for Economy7. My elderly next door neighbour had central heating installed by EAGA when it was free for over 80's up here (think it still is), and they didn't advise her to get the meter changed. I had to read the meter for her one day and realised it was still the White Meter (Econ7 up here). When her supplier sorted it out, she got a refund in treble figures for the year it had been like that. So you may be paying too much if you meter isn't the correct one.
