As for all the smug comments, please be aware that one day it may happen to you..
I seriously doubt I will ever see a fancy advert, click the link and enter all my details thinking I am going to win something.
I would have to be absolutely paralytic and completely out of mind.
The above posts show why these scammers flourish, Why not increase their presence, there are so many people happy to click away and enter all their details it's a great profitable business.0 -
True, you do have to take responsibility and not blame others. In this case it's the wording, but you have to read the first text you get, and send STOP as soon as you realise it means PER text.
I almost got caught out a few times thanks to STOP I was ok. I really got shafted with 78007, Yes I did ask to be put in a draw. But the £5 per msg was per WEEK not text, I still put stop after the 4th text I got from them. There was nothing about per text either.
Thanks to payphoneplus I found the company email address and sent them an email.
So hopefully they will sort it out for me, as I am not going to pay for anything after the 4th message.0 -
CHR15 there are more ways to be scammed than online, so don't be so quick to say HA HA HA at others.0

Be careful where it does go spore, our phone numbers get sold along with our other details. So if you ever get one of these messages you know what to do.
A friend got stung, she had put her number for one legitimate company, a few weeks later she got stung by the text scam. Well she did let her kids answer the messages without reading them herself.0 -

The reply I made in THIS THREAD REPLY #13 is equally valid for these advertising "free compo" text nonsense here as wellBeware of imitations e.g. Robert Sterling0 -
Stopping texts should be easy, it's when theycontinue to put on charges after you have text stop. Then they have probably sold your number on anyway.
That reply to the other thread, I agree totally. NEVER EVER send money out like that.0 -
The vast majority of online 'competitions' exist to get your email address, mobile phone number or something of that nature. It's just another fact of online life!
That being said there are plenty genuine competitions out there, but you have to assume that any personal information you put in, will be shared with the entire world.0 -
I occasionally get spam text messages - I never reply with 'STOP' though and not noticed any extra charges on my bill. Would I be better off replying stop, than not replying at all?
Latest one was along the lines of 'we are offering free entries into the lottery, reply to this text blah blah.... or text stop to cancel' I just deleted it, not seen anything fishy on my bill.£2 Savers Club 2011 (putting towards a deposit
