The reading of 03990 is all that is stated on the bill from BG

Surely there must be a start and ending reading and a start and ending date?

I find it strange that up until the meter reader read your meter your readings were 68, 155, 248, 344 then the meter reader reads the meter as 3990 whereas I would have thought it should be 399 then the next reading you give is 4060?

A more logical series of readings would be 68, 155, 248, 344, 399, 406 then the reading 4077.5 seems to be the odd one out, unless all the other readings were wrong.

Thanks for this, this is my point we have jumped from 100's to thousands and can work out why. I know I have read my meter right, I know I cant go by my neighbours but I am going to see what their meter readings are, they moved in a month or so after me. (these are new build houses).

One other question about your meter. You said you can only input five digits for your meter reading online. How many digits are there before the decimal point on the reading.
I ask because some new meters actually are 6 dial (ie: 6 digit meters). It is not always business customers that have these meters. Soime residential customers do too.

Sorry, if you think you are having to explain yourself over and over again. But if it is a 6 digit meter, that throws a whole new light over this issue

Thanks for replying, I dont mind explaining myself if it means someone may be able to see what's happened!!

There is definitely only five digits before the decimal point.

Hi ljs2000 - From the readings you have given, this meter has been behaving stangely since you moved in.
Your 20 June read of 68 to 24 Oct read of 155, totals 87units over 127 days. This only 1.45Kw a day which would be accounted for by just making lots of tea

Your 24 Oct read of 155 to 26 Feb read of 344, totals 189 units over 25 days, which is 7.56Kw a day, which though within the average use for a family, is a little on the low side for winter.

Your 26 Feb read of 344 to 13 Apr read of 4077, totals 3733 units over 46 days, which is 81kw a day which is what could be expected as the total for 8 houses like yours.

    OK What to look at
You say this is a new house. Were the houses around you still being built when you moved in? If so there's a small possibilty that your meter is supplying more than one property.
Though this would not explain your unbelieveably low consuption for the first 5 months

Check the meter number on your bill matches that on your meter, it's not unknown for suppliers to mix them up

If you have an Immersion heater, check the timer control to see it's not on 24hrs a day and that the thermostat is working

When you have done these checks, write to the supplier with the calculations above having first checked them yourself And by the way, the explanation you got from the Customer Phone Help Desk that "The meter is catching up with itself", is total cr*p.

Now we get to the between a Rock & Hard place bit
The company will fit a check meter at your request, but you have to pay a fee up front which they will reimburse if the meter is actually duff, but, you are living in a new build that may just have a wiring fault which is the developers problem, not your suppliers.
If you have a mate, or even a mate of a mate who's a qualified sparks, I think it would be worth having him check out your wiring first if the fee's reasonable
    All the best

Thanks for this, this house was one of four built, all at the same time so they finished building them all at the same time. I will do as you say (my brother is a sparks). Thanks for the info.
