Sorry to labour the point, but did you submit that reading as 04077 online then?

Online you can only submit 5 digits. The 04077 reading has not been submitted this was only taken by me last night. The 03646 (or whatever it was!) was taken by a meter reader last week. To be honest, I have not looked at my meter since February when I last did my online reading which was teh 00344 reading.

So if you are reading your meter correctly, and the readings are correct, then you either have something very energy hungry hooked up to your supply, or you have a faulty meter.
Even a back up immersion heater left on is not going to use that much.

    But was it 03440.0 or 00344.0 ?

If the meter reader took a reading of 3990 where previously you had a reading of 334 then after the meter reader took his reading of 3990 and you now have a reading of 4077 I must point out that you have most possibly misread your meter.

What are the readings on your bill, including any decimal points if any?

The reading of 03990 is all that is stated on the bill from BG This reading was taken on 8 April 2010. My reading of 04077.5 was taken yesterday at 7.30pm. My reading of 26 February is 00344.5.

This is a new property and the meter is digital.

Something is definitely not right with such a big jump with the meter.I would ring back and hopefully you'll get someone else who will send someone out to check the meter. What happens if you switch everything off?Does your meter still go up?

One other question about your meter. You said you can only input five digits for your meter reading online. How many digits are there before the decimal point on the reading.
I ask because some new meters actually are 6 dial (ie: 6 digit meters). It is not always business customers that have these meters. Soime residential customers do too.

Sorry, if you think you are having to explain yourself over and over again. But if it is a 6 digit meter, that throws a whole new light over this issue
