I made have sounded a little harsh.
The reason for this was that the OP asked with a question about why she was having to pay a £25.00 minimum payment. This was answered very quickly and accurately. She then went on to post numerous replies saying that Virgin were wrong, they did not know what they were doing and how dare they. In the end it is their policy and if you do not agree with it, don't use their services. Sorry but that is the way I see it and no amount of moaning is going to get Virgin to change their T and Cs.

A right ole MSE classic this thread has become!

A think the £25 minimum (or the balance) is OK really. Probably keeps costs down a bit and it's their commercial decision really. It's at the level of a mobile phone subscription, a monthly Sky payment etc. Probably shouldn't be in the game if it's a problem.

Yep it's a high proportion if your balance is less than £100. But probably nothing in it for MBNA if people run such small balances.

I've come back as I received a lovely message from Sarita, so I've decided to revisit the thread.

Firstly, she is EXACTLY right in what she says in her post. You presume I have debts - I do not. You presume I can't budget - I can. You say there are things in my posts that 'set alarm bells ringing' - pardon??

no more cards - how dare you jump to conclusions and say 'I think the underlying problem is that the OP is already getting into Debt?' What a patronising man you are. I am not, thankfully, and understand the way that credit cards work and how easy it is to spend, spend, spend on them and before you know it you are out of your depth. That is not something I do.

All you have done throughout this thread is make assumptions about me and my spending, which I find patronising and unacceptable.

As Sarita rightly pointed out, I simply raised the question about a £25 minimum payment on such a small balance of under £70. Had I said that I had a debt of £5,000 on a card and didn't understand why I had to pay £25 I could understand your point a bit more!

What has really annoyed me is that you have made things up, such as:

You have already said that you can't make the full repayment this month.

Eh? Where in my post did I say that?

And ILW: She then went on to post numerous replies saying that Virgin were wrong, they did not know what they were doing and how dare they.

I never made these comments, you need to read posts more carefully!

and for your information no more cards, the first few posts were helpful, it wasn't until you barged in along with a couple of others (I notice some posts have been edited) that the tone of the posts started getting patronising.

Thankyou again Sarita, all the points made in your posts were relevant and correct. At last, a sensible voice in the crowd.

I said 'when things are tight.' And I actually do try to budget. I'm no different to anybody else who takes out a credit card but cannot pay off the amount in full each month.

So what exactly did you mean here then ? It reads like you can't make the minimum payment.

Good, does that mean you have actually read the T&C's then :rotfl:

I hope so, Debt is a serious issue. If you had posted the facts then the answers you received might be more balanced.

Still be happy, its only £25 and that are far more important things in life.

I know I really shouldn't rise to the bait, but I have to ask, where in 'I don't do this, I pay more, but when things are tighter I can bring it right down to £5 if I wish' sound like I can't make the minimum payment?

The clue is in the words 'if I wish.' It doesn't say 'when I can't make the minimum payment.'

    What a stupid comment.

  • Hey, lets all be honest....

MOST of us now read these sorts of things because we've been caught out in the past or have seen other people on here caught out!
  • OK.

I'm sorry if I offended you and misunderstood what you meant by your posts.

I suppose a sh*g is out of the question then :D

    littlewren,
    I completely agree with you.
I remember receiving a letter informing me of the minimum payment and like you do not find this a problem. I make payments of £15 per week from hubby's account and £60 per month from my account although they are both joint accounts - If I have a tight month (i.e. my paydate is being changed at work in May from 20th to the last day of the month) I will pay the minimum like you. I can afford to pay more but choose not to. My balance will be roughly £200 this month so I will be in the same position as you in May and it would have been better if I could opt to pay less but guess I will have to stick with the £25. I agree that £25 on a £67 balance is not a realistic proportion of the money owed (approx 1/3) but maybe it is easier or more profitable for Virgin admin wise to impose a minimum of £25 instead of a percentage.
    ;)
