Struggling with debt? Ask a debt advisor a question

Hi,
I am just filling in the debt remedy form on the CCCS website and have a question. I am currently on maternity leave until October and was wondering if I need to put my maternity pay as my 'take home pay' or the salary I will receive in October.
Thanks,

Hi how exactly do I get the DRO from CCCS??
As i just did the debt-remedy online, and then did the 'Live-Chat' with an adviser,
but all he did was look at my income vs outgoings and debt from my debt remedy,
tell me that i wouldn't be able to offer any repayment for the debts as i have less income than i do expenditure...
But then he just sent me the link to download the PDF of CCCS's booklet about dealing with debt, what the banks can and cant do (all of which i already know),
but then just went without offering me the various solutions like DROs... ect
So didn't actually offer me any solutions at all, or say that he will do a DRO for me.
Do i need to tell them on the live chat that i want to do DRO, and ask to be sent a pack for it??0 -
Hello,
I would be thankful for any advice.
On behalf of my girlfriend I have made (she signed the letters) a full and final settlement offer to BLS collections (who are LLoyds inhouse collections dept).
I've sent two letters now by Recorded Deliv. neither of which have arrived (still showing as being progressed through the system for delivery)
now I'm assuming they've either got them but refused to sign for them, or just ignored them, either way it doesn't help me out much. Although I do have the proof of posting etc so when they say I've ignored their letters I can prove I haven't.
What do you think I should do? Im thinking about sending them both again via Special Delivery as the postman is unlikely to just let them have that without a signature.
I'm certainly not going to talk to these pirates via the phone.0 -
From all that i have read of peoples debt on this thread i feel bad because my debt is only £30, its not the amount, obviously, but the fact that a debt collector rang me to recover it.
The fact is i had signed up years ago with tiscali for a phone and internet package then talk talk took over.
When i moved house i phoned tt to tell them and give them notice that i was moving, it was agreed that i would pay the 'last direct debit' on the 3rd march then cancel the dd. We moved on the 1st of march but then i recieved a phone call for another £43 which after they explained i thought 'well ide better pay it' even though i wasnt that sure why i owed it, a short while after that another call and more cost £13, i specifically asked 'is that it, i dont owe you anymore' the woman said that was it.
I have had so many calls after this saying that i now owe them £30 odd for the the month after i had left that address.
I have told them that i really dont see how i owe them this but would gladly pay if they would prove it to me.
This morning i have had a phone call from somebody called c.a.r.s telling me that they are going to send a letter to my old address in regards to this debt. Duh! I dont live there anymore, they dont know my new address.
I know how pathetic this is compared the the bad situations of others but we never buy things we cant afford, all bills are payed on time and in full....do you see where im going with this, im angry that im accused of being in debt when im not, or at least i dont think i am.
I dont get it.
Should i just pay it to avoid a ccj or should i fight them.

Subsequently, I have ended up with rather a lot of bad debt, i have £4500 on my credit card, which at the moment i am paying off at £100 per month, on a reduced plan with MBNA. I have a reducing overdraft with Nationwide, which is at the moment £800 and reducing by £60 per month and also have a overdraft with Barclays at £2.900. The o/d with them had been overlooked as i had moved house, and it was the interest each month that was inflated, as I hadnt got notification and didnt realise it was rising so rapidly each month. I complained and they dealt with my complaint, and now they are pestering me for the money. So much so that they passed the debt to RMA who are phoning me constantly and also threatening to turn up at the door. I have spoken with RMA and explained that I want to pay it off but |I cannot afford any more than £60 and that will put me with basically nothing left to live on, but they just keep saying not enough not enough. So so far have not come to an agreement, so worried about it I contact the cccs, who ran thru a budget plan with me and suggest that I have only £65 spare monthly to share between these creditors. They have sent me a DMP and suggest I act straight away. But i am worried about it, 1. If I tell MBNA they wont be getting the £100 they may get difficult. Also RMA for barclays I dont think will be satisfied. and i see from your paperwork that they can still keep pestering me for more. and even take me to court for more, even though i havent got it. Help, do i just beg steal but nor more borrow, to survive and continue making hefty payments and keep them away or do i choose the DMP.
Hello,
The main thing is you are dealing with the debts and they can not have what you have not got to give them.
Stick with your payments and don’t be pressured into paying more. I have attached a link to the CCCS website that explains the collection process for you. Have a read through it and let me know if you have any further questions.

Hope this helps

Can anyone point me in the right direction for addresses to send my "Notification of Debt Management Plan" to? I need the addresses for Egg, Abbey(Santander) and Virgin (MBNA) credit cards.
Thanks in advance!
Hello,
I don’t have the address but they will all have the addresses on their website or the back of your statements.

I've expressed it on this thread before, but I just want to express again my gratitude to CCCS for the support and help over the past 3 years. It drives me nuts when on this board you sometimes see people complaining about things to do with CCCS. It's a charity in place to help people like you and me get out of whatever bad situation we've found ourselves in financially. Sometimes people seem to want to blame anyone but themselves for their situation. I guess I'll just have to speak for myself when I say I got myself into debt starting my business, and CCCS helped me (almost) get out of it, while reducing the worry so I could get on with my work and life.
when my situation allows there will certainly be a cheque heading your way to help you continue the good work you do.
many many thanks.
Thank you for your kind words. As a counsellor working for the charity, this is one of the perks and makes the job worthwhile.
I will pass your comments onto my colleagues for you.

This afternoon I had a interview with the specialized debt people through Citizen Advice Bureau. They were really good and because of my circumstances I get legal aid and they are going to write to all my creditors on my behalf.
First of all I have been advised to get a basic bank account with a non tied company to the ones I have my debts with as to not affect anything once they start writing to my creditors offering the little amount I can afford to pay. They are happy with me and the fact I am not yet in arrears with any of my creditors. Hopefully this should work in my favor as I am being pro active in trying to sort out my debts before I do struggle to pay them. I am due to go on maternity beginning of July so I am going to struggle with a hefty drop in my wages. I have been living from my overdraft for many months so hopefully will be able to finally start to getting my life on track and be able to provide my lil princess with a stable home and steady income.
Sorry to have blabbed on a bit but I forgot to ask the councilor when I get a new bank account and change my mortgage and income over to this account do I stop the loan and credit card payments and wait for the aid worker to get in touch with the creditors on my behalf or do I continue paying the normal payments until she has contacted them - she says this could take a few weeks as I need to get back to her with account numbers and addresses etc.
Any other advice you feel you could give me would be much appreciated too.
Thanks in advance
xxx
Hello,
You would need to cancel any direct debits and standing orders coming out of your old account, this is so they still don’t try and take the money. You will need to make token payments until the payment arrangement is set up via the CAB. A token payment, is not a specific amount – it could just be £1 if this is all you can afford.
Hope this helps

I'm a bit confused, so have a question. We got a letter from 1st credit regarding DH's debt with Santander. They sent 2 letters in one day, and are giving instructions to pay them instead of Santander. We haven't received anything from Santander saying they sold the debt. Do we continue paying Santander until they tell us otherwise? Or do we now start paying 1st credit... How do we know - we've been bombarded with so much post from Santander that it's just ridiculous, but never anything saying "ok pay 1st credit now as we've sold the debt to them"
Hello,
I would recommend that you contact Santander and let them know what has happened and make sure that the debt has been passed on to First Credit.

Hi there,
I have managed to incur over about £16,000 worth of debt following the break up of my marriage. This is all due to having to find an alternative place to live and increased commuting costs. But was mainly triggered by the bank bouncing direct debits, the the charges and fine payments spiraling out of control.
I have a few questions that are troubling me that hopefully I can get answers to from here.
At least £6000 of the debt was is from joint credit cards (card in my name but the ex wife had a card of her own on the same account).
Can this debt be shared with her? i.e. I only pay half ????
If so what would be the best option to pay back the remaining 10k. ????
I am now in a happy relationship with a new lady and we are thinking of maybe getting married in the future. She is a home owner with quite a bit of equity in her home.
Would my debt issues cause her any problems if we did get married ? i.e. could the companies I owe go after her ????
I have not long started a new job after about 8 months out of work and wish to get back on track and pay off my debts. Where is the best place to start. ????
Thank you in advance.
Dasonix
Hello,
Thank you for your question.
You will be liable for the full balance on the credit card as your ex would just be classed as an additional card holder. This means unfortunately you would not be able to split the balance.
Your debt would not be linked to your new partner as long as it’s all just in your name. If you lived at her mortgaged house and you decided to go bankrupt then the official receiver may say that you have beneficial interest.
If you would like to discuss this with the CCCS, then you could call our helpline free on 0800 138 1111.
