Not sure if this was missd earlier....I have entered a DMP with CCCS, i wrote letters to all my creditors as request but have already received this emai from one of the payday loan companies:

Should i set up a seperate payment plan with them ? Or should i still leave it with CCCS to pay them ?

Hi oneway81 and thank you for your post - I’m sorry, I think we may have missed your earlier one.

It’s not a good idea to set up an arrangement with them outside of your plan as you would then be showing them preferential treatment over your other creditors.

Like they have mentioned in their letter, some companies do charge for their services, but because you are on a DMP with us, your entire surplus is going to your creditors.

I don’t have access to your details so I’m not sure how much you will be paying them on your DMP, but if you call our client support team, they will be able to discuss this with you.

    Kind regards,
    Pavan

  • Hi there
We've got a DMP with CCCs and have just received a CCJ. I have spoken to a CCCS counsellor who was very helpful and I understand the process now. Today I have received a letter from another debt management company who know all about the CCJ - my question is, how have they found out and I am now going to be bombarded with companies wanting to 'help' for a fee?? Thanks for your time.

Hi skintoflinto and thanks for your post.

Unfortunately, companies can pay for this information through the Registry Trust.

If you get any more calls like this, just explain that you’re already dealing with your situation through a debt advice charity and ask them to remove your details from their database.

    Kind regards,
    Pavan

  • Hello I'm new here so hoping this goes right and gets posted! I'm planning to contact cccs about my debts and the possibility of a DMP but would like advive on whether i should change my bank account first? I have always banked with lloyds for the past 14yrs and part of my debts is a loan and a credit card with them. I have heard you shouldn't bank where you have debts and I'm also worried about their right to offset when they are approached about DMP. I'm thinking of changing to a natwest basic account that won't have a monthly fee attached. Is this the right thing and should I switch before contacting the cccs? Thank u :)

Hi there, just after an answer to a quick question as trawling the internet for the answer has still left me a little confused. I previously had debt that was on my credit report as being in default and within the past 6 months it has been erased altogether from my report as it has most likely been over 7/8 years since I initially took the credit cards out. My query is though I am still being asked to make re-payments for a debt that was passed on to a debt collecting agency for which the credit now doesn't exist as it's not on my credit report. Do I still have to make re-payments or do I now not owe anything?

Just because a debt is no longer on your credit file does not mean you don't owe it. A debt will be stop appearing from your file 6years after the date of the original default notice. But the debt still exists and you still owe the money.

If there is a period of 6years (5 in scotland) where you pay nothing towards a debt and do not acknowledge that you owe the money and assuming the creditor doesn't obtain a CCJ then the debt may well be statute barred and you would no longer be legally required to pay back the money, but even then the debt would still exist.

Hi angel007and thank you for your message

It is fine to change your account over to a basic bank account elsewhere where you have no debts before you contact us.
The sooner you change, the sooner you are getting back in control of your finances again! :)

    Kind Regards

    Hi,

I've just been refused an energy company switch. First Utility have turned me down because my "credit application has been denied". I should have a perfect credit rating. I've lived in the same place nearly 20 years, never defaulted on a debt, gone into unauthorised overdraft, or anything like that. I have a visa card, so I have a credit record.

I know why this has happened. Two years ago I got a credit check from Call Credit and the problem is that I live in an old Edinburgh flat. The flat number on the official registry and electoral roll will be 34 2F2 (that is, 2nd floor, 2nd flat). Computer systems never recognise this, so I always have to give my address as 34/4.

I tried going on Call Credit just now and the system won't even recognise me! It won't let me put in the proper address, and for some reason refuses to accept I exist. So I don't see what I can do to tackle this. This must be wrecking my credit record and it's so unfair. Meanwhile, I'm stuck on a really expensive gas & electricity contract.

I've just now reapplyed to first-utility through energyhelpline, this time giving the proper address manually, but I don't know if that'll work. I'm hoping that everything is so automated that they won't even notice it's an identical application apart from the flat number. But if they do, I suppose being rejected twice will make things even worse for me.

Please can you give me any advice?

    Thanks very much,

    Kay

    Hi Kay

First I would get copies of your credit files to check there is not anything on them that shouldn't be. Personally i would check equifax and experian in preference to callcredit as callcredit is the least used of them all.
Alternatively you could speak to first utility and ask them which credit reference agency they check (just explain you've been declined and want to check that your file is as it should be).

If once you have your credit file everything is as it should be and your address is correct on that then should you be declined again it might be worth appealing the decision and getting someone to manually look at your application and credit file.
