MSE News: Bank branches irrelevant for many
Comments

Whilst the evidence seems to show that most of us don't use bank branches, the reasons are clear in this thread i.e.
- branches are now so few and far between that it's difficult for people to reach them without incurring cost and time they may not have _pale_;
- reductions in counter-staff numbers mean that customers are left queueing even though they are the very people who keep the bank afloat.:mad:
- customers who want to use local branches appear to be powerless in their wish to be able to deal face to face with counter staff; so we are forced to use demonstrably risky internet banking where security requirements have reached such proportions that our lives consist of numbers to remember and processes to follow, not to mention the time involved in accessing it all.:(

I agree with you about the security but have to say if Egg can have an easy log in system then why cant the others. After the first log in all you need is your mothers maiden name and your password, whereas with Lloyds you need a user number, password plus 3 digits from another password.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

I much prefer to do my banking online but ocasionally it is useful to go into branch eg for a large amount of cash or to sort out a problem.
However today I am being forced to go into Lloyds TSB for the third time in 8 days to sort out why my matured ISA has paid me no interest yet. I am convinced it is a ploy to try to sell me more "products". Grr!0 -
Last time i went to a bank it was yorkshire, and it had a queue before it opened, and i know there was a woman there talking about something that had gone wrong online, she had cancelled something but it was still showing up, so she had to go in the branch to tell them to cancel whatever it was, someone was getting his credit thing raised, i forget the name of it :P
i think lots of people still use the bank, and online isnt very safe is it, not with virus and everything, i think it still is safer to walk down the street and put money in your bank account

Just use the same password.0 -
I didnt think of that, just assumed the two passwords couldnt be the same.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

Another factor in the results is that MSErs are hardly a representative sample of bank users - having a younger age profile, are internet savvy & therefore more prone to use internet or telephone bankingEthical moneysaver0

I use a bank or post office 6 days a week as my business is primarily cash.0
