driver but have no credit card.

Hello,new member.Apologies for posting twice but in the wrong place originally!
My wife and I plan to hire a car in Avignon.The problem we are coming up against is: I am the driver but have no credit card.My wife will pay with hers.
The hire company are saying that is ok but I must also show a credit card.
This was not a problem in Lanzarote.
The help is via a call centre so not sure how accurate it is.
Any ideas appreciated.

Thanks,shop4carhire were very helpfull.Here is what they said:

As the hire agreement would be in your name you would need to present both a driving licence and credit card when you pick up the car. Your husband could then be added as an additional driver and would only need to show his driving licence. This assumes you have a driving licence of course.

We've checked this with a couple of hire companies and they've both said the same.

Another alternative might be to put your husband on your card account as an additional cardholder. The booking would then be in his name as would the credit card and driving licence. There's usually no charge for this and can be arranged quite quickly with the credit card company. The additional card could then be destroyed after the trip or kept for occasions such as this.
