all my programs have the latest updates, I am running windows defender, spybot, adaware & AVG. i have run a check with each one of these and it is still popping up
I use win xp sp2, windows update is fully up to date and the windows firewall is on. should i run another firewall as well such as zonealarm?Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0 -
zonealarm is only better because it warns you of outbound connection attempts (most people tick allow anyway, which defeats the object of having the outbound feature) which windows firewall doesn't. The reason I asked that, was because of the wording of your original post. It sounded like you'd plugged this into broadband for the first time, and got infected, which is usually a sign that the laptop isn't patched or doesn't have the firewall turned on.. it could just be that you've strayed onto a dodgy site.
If she doesn't have a router, that is a good bit of added protection.
What is the trojan called, have you done a safe mode scan yet?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -

If you are using win xp make sure you switch off system restore before you start removing anything, but remember to switch it back on afterwards0
