Cancelling SKY HD after installation ?

Options
I'm supposed to be getting upgraded to SKy HD TODAY but having seen the Virgin Cashback offer on cashback kings(£120) it looks the better deal.
I called Virgin to see if i was in a cable ready area and they said they would get an engineer to investigate but could take up to 14 days!

Anyone know what my cancellation rights with SKy are ? Is there a cooling off period ?
Thanks in advance !

When i queried the £60 installation fee before the visit , as i already have a sky plus box and could easily do it myself,I was told engineers check your dish etc etc.
    Did they ? Course not.
    Two guys in/out within 5 minutes !!!

    so,basically a £60 delivery charge.

Mine cost me £30 installation even tho I'm an ex-Sky engineer. They're meant to re-place any damaged cabling however you can blame Sky's greed for the quick job.
Sky pile that much work onto their installers they dont even have time for a 'tommy tite' let alone a proper job.

Why didn't you just put your post code in the form on http://allyours.virginmedia.com/?buspart=Portal_HP_topnav_1_1 ?

If it isn't showing on Virgin website, don't hold your hopes out, my Daughter has a Virgin Green Box in the pavement 2 doors away and Virgin will not install for her.

Dont hold your breath!! VM mostly use contractors now, they nay send a service tech out but I doubt it.
Look outside the front of your house for a small plastic plate about 4x4 inches, this is called the 'Toby' & is the cover that leads to the ducting VM need access to in order to run the drop cable from the street cab to your home.In some cases they are tarmaced/cemented over if the toby lid is missing.
If the is one it'll be along the front of your property, either on the footpath or outside by the house wall in the case of new builds,if the home is a semi detatched,it may be shared between you & your neighbours.

    HTH,
    Spike

Can I just ask what you were looking for by upgrading to Sky HD?

If it's actual HD channles, Virgin's HD service is not anywhere near as good as Sky's - around 10 channels compared to 30.

Really depends on what you are looking for and what you watch but I wouldn't go for Virgin for its HD offering.

Well, i got free installation last week though this shows as £120 then a credit of £120 on the account.

However, i had to have the quad LNB installed myself and had done the cabling for them as i had some building work done.

On the first date, the engineer turned up but would not go on the roof of the single storey extension where the Sky dish was (when installed many years ago there was no extension). He stated they are not allowed on roofs and can only install dishes on walls while using a ladder. So he left some cable for me to run through the wall. He called Sky to tell them he can't do install and off he went.

Second engineer came a few weeks later and same thing, i.e. can't go on roofs. Luckily my builder was here and installed the LNB on the dish. The cable had been put through the wall.

All the Sky engineer did was unbox the HD box and switch it on and off he went.

My builder the charged me for the 'extras' he'd done, including installing LNB and cable etc. Can i claim this charge from Sky as they didn't really do any 'installation'?
