So I'm a fraudster now?

I bought a preorder domain service from domainmonster.com for £20. When I register for site like this I usually just enter a load of rubbish on sign up and then pay with my debit card, it has worked every other time but now they email me asking for photo id and other verifications which obviously don't match the account info but DO match the card info.
So I think no problem, I'll just login and correct the details on their accounts, since they already have my money what's to worry about. But nope, the account doesn't exist anymore.
So I say ok cancel everything and refund the money...
So he is asking for two things here an address to match the account and an address to match the card? Well the ID i provided does match that card so... and besides that I have to do this in 48 hours? Where do I stand legally here? I mean, I've paid for something but not received my service... so...

Thanks for contacting Domainmonster support. As per the below email
asking you to provide verification, your account will remain locked
until you provide us with the items requested I'm afraid. I realise that
this may be inconvenient, however the verification process is a onetime
only process, and you will be verified for life following us receiving
these documents! I would like to take this opportunity to stress that
the 48hours stated in the verification email is absolute, and we must
receive the identification within this time frame.
So I say ok cancel everything and refund the money...
Unfortunately you cannot provide us information that does not the match
the account. It will have to match the address that you have given us on
the account. I wish I could update the account, but I'm afraid that
would defeat the point of verifying the correct address. In the event
that we are unable to unlock the account we will not be able to refund
the money as it will be flagged as fraudulent, and we will be unable to
release the funds in this case. Please let me know if you can provide
anything further, we will need to verify the billing address attached to
the card.

why do you enter a load of rubbish at signup?
Why not register with your own details?
I would assume they ask for the ID to stop someone buying a domain with false details and a stolen debit/credit card.
I think you will have little comeback and only have yourself to blame.
Just write it off as a bad mistake.0 -
sorry, sounds like it's your own fault for not entering the correct info (purposely) in the first place...0

I'm sure that deposit is non-returnable.

I think I know how OP feels - it annoys me when buying stuff online that I have to sign up for an "account", I don't mind supplying my details for an order but if I am just ordering one time with a shop, cant I just "order as guest" (which some places provide).
It's even more annoying when you need an account to find out their postage prices, in this instance I tend to register with rubbish to check it, then doing it again with real details - although I only give real details for details pertaining to the card everything else is "faked".
They have no reason why they should be so "strict" regarding the first part - verifying your card should be sufficient - they just want your money for free.
If the funds are fraudulent, it should go back to the bank!0 -
Your loss, you should have given correct details in the first place.
I have a number of different domains all got through Domainmonster.com and have never had a single issue with them, very good service, and cheap as well.0 -

I'm sorry, probably just me being dense, but if you order something on line, don't you like need to give them your correct details in order to get your stuff?!?0 -

Well if you are getting a service, then no - although of course you need to enter matching details for your card.
I do enter my address, I deem that acceptable for ordering something (even a service), just sometimes places want your life story as well.
I forgot here that address isn't necessarily needed for a card.
Also, regarding domain registration - your details tend to get plastered on the whois database for everyone to see, a lot of people don't like this (and a lot of domain companies will display a proxy set of details as an option).0 -
Only yourself to blame, you paid them to register a domain but if you have entered false details they cannot do it, I doubt you have an automatic right to cancel either, you will just have to tell them why you lied about your details and provide them with the correct ones and hope they can sort you out.0
