Great Tips to Cut Postage Costs Hunt

Hope this helps everyone out there:
Inland letters and packets are affected.
Overseas mail, inland parcels (normally items over 2kg) and special delivery are NOT changing.
Where you can save money though was listed in another posting- as long as your "letter" weighs no more than 100g (previously 60g) and meets the size guidelines- as a general ruleA5 and no thicker than 5mm (about 6 sheets of A4) you'll still pay the current 32p for first class and 23p for second. If you choose to send the same 6 sheets of A4 paper unfolded in an A4 envelope you'll pay 44p for first- 12p more for NOT folding.
The stats at the moment are that 80% of mail will be cheaper or the same.
Hope this helped and don't forget every house will get a paper template anyway to help- alternatively visit your local post office0

I know someone who crosses out the address on received letters and put xmas cards in the old envelope. He writes on the envelope "No longer at the Address. Try 'NEW ADDRESS'" and sure enough the card arrives at the new address he's wriiten on the envelope with no charge! All his mates know the trick and think it's funny. I think this is really naughty and wouldn't do it myself!Cash ISA rate 6.5% fixed for 2 years. Mortgage rate 0.75% = 5.75% profit on £75K = £4500 per year:j

Anybody know how sending newspapers will be affected. At the moment you just roll them up in a paper wrapper & tape the edges but in future will it be cheaper to put them in a big envelope?
 Thanks0

Does anyone know if it is the total value of stamps that matter and not the type of stamps?
For example I have an item I wish to send to the USA (via Airsure) I have enough 2nd class stamps to cover the value of postage but I don't know if I can do that or if I have to use a different kind of stamp. If freedom is outlawed, only outlaws will have freedom.0

I would love to know the answer to this too, as i buy bulk 2nd class stamps (100 at a time) but send out lots of books that i pay individually to send. It would be good to know if i could reduce the top-up i pay by putting some 2nd class on it first, if that makes sense!Print_Screen wrote:Does anyone know if it is the total value of stamps that matter and not the type of stamps? It is the total value of the stamps that matters. I buy 1st class stamps from Costco at a discount and use them on all kinds of letters and packages whether to the UK or abroad. They are calculated at the current 1st class post (e.g. 32p) so 3 stamps would be equivalent to 96p. I then top up with other stamps - I find that having 1p, 2p and 5p stamps in stock covers most eventualities. The Royal Mail site https://www.royalmail.com now has a "weight comparison chart" which should be useful.Print_Screen wrote:Does anyone know if it is the total value of stamps that matter and not the type of stamps?
