1st time driver. Am I doing something wrong re:insurance?

Hi,
Long time reader, first time writer.
I've followed Martin's tips on how to get the best car insurance quote.
I checked my job status (trainee office manager) and changed it to something similar with better quotes (assistant manager), i've been through every site mentioned using the following information:
I'm 22
New driver
Third Party Fire & Theft
Parked on a street
Under £6000 m/py
Ford Focus 2000 1.4ltr Zetec (market value around £1,200)
and the best quote i've found is £1865.98
Now, it isn't awful, in fact if I pay using a 0% interest credit card (12 months) then the monthly repayments are £155.41, which is around what I expected to pay, but I was really expecting to get much closer to £1500.00
Is there anything i'm doing wrong?

This could be to do with the postcode where you live. If the car is parked on the street, the Insurers may consider this a high risk, in addition to you being a new driver.
My suggestion would be to contact a decent local broker (not Swintons). You may be pleasantly surprised by the service and competitiveness of what they can source for you.The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -
Thanks. I think I live in a nice neighbourhood but there is theft around, and a right of way passage at the end of the road which does result in a fair few pedestrians through the street.
I'll get some names and go face to face. This internet...I forget sometimes we can go things in person.

Have you tried adding a parent as a named driver - often helps reduce the premium a bit more0

Have you tried DirectLine?0

Agreed, adding a parent (or other experienced driver) makes a massive difference.
My 19 year old girlfriend owns a 2009 Seat Ibiza, 2 claims, (1 at-fault), no points. Her renewal quote this year was £,2400. She added me to her policy as a named driver (as I do drive her car, but usually under my own insurance) (26, no claims, 8 years NCB, no points, cheap profession) and it dropped to £800 !Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

Not only parents, but any other drivers I find (within reason!). My friend and I have been driving the same amount of time, however, I lost all my NCB last year, my friend had 3. I added him on and it made it cheaper! We're only 21! Crazy really.0 -
Cheapest I have found is Tesco.
I'm 25, have a 1999 1.6 Astra Estate, with my mum as a second driver (with regular use of another vehicle), the insurance is £1061 for 3rd Party F&T.0 -
Yeah, this is with both my parents on my insurance, and my dad is a driver with 40 years of experience as a lorry driver and 15 as a tanker driver for shell.
I think it's ridiculous but i've looked everywhere.Current debt : OD : £300, glasses £14, laptop £194.69, loan £517.21Credit Card : 1,031.85

I've always been taught that it should, if they have more experiance / no claims than you.Current debt : OD : £300, glasses £14, laptop £194.69, loan £517.21Credit Card : 1,031.85
