Just wanted to say thanks for all the great hints and tips for this most pernicious of problems! It literally drives me mad - at least every couple of days there's a new 'present' left on the pavement outside our flat and as soon as it's cleared away, along comes another!
I went into a pet shop today and the guy in there also recommended using anything citrus to deter the doggies, so I think I shall create my own brand of peppery citrus spray and see if it works.
Also, loving all the tongue in cheek comments - been chuckling away to myself to the bemusement of my colleagues!
