I would give them a ring to be on the safe side. I asked a similar thing about mutt once, and they said if I wasn't claiming I didn't need to tell them, but I've always wondered if that was just bad advice from a poorly trained advisor!
I'd rather let them know and be safe than have my policy invalidated for keeping quiet. Especially if you may need to make claims in the future. Hope your kitty is ok.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • I would to be safe. Plus, depending on your policy, you can claim this payment as your excess and so if the costs continue you can claim. I have been caught out not claiming for a few bits and bobs and then they escalate and I have to root around for old invoices etc!

Thanks. i'll give them a ring tomorrow just to be on the safe side.

Kitty (TJ) is fine - just going through a change of diet at the moment onto some renal support food and seems to be enjoying it! Am really surprised and he'll usually starve before eating dry food and eat around it if its mixed! He's actually started to get little more active in the last few days - i thought he was just slowing down because of his age.

He got his own back on a big black cat that's been bullying him and sprays in our garden. I had to separate them as he had it pinned on its back - whoops. My big boy is back lol

I dont think there is any need to report it. If you start claiming the vet will update them on all treatment anyway.

if it is an ongoing condition then keep the receipts for all related food/medicines/treatments and send them in with a claim form once it gets to a decent amount - remember to do this before the end of your policy year - you have to pay an excess each policy year you see.

They said the same to me too, but I don't trust them. I would rather tell them unnecessarily than have them find out at a later date and use it as an excuse not to pay out for an "undisclosed condition" or something. (that was Direct Line, not Pet Plan).

Although it's incredibly tedious, I think people should actually read the terms and conditions small print of their policies. It could save you a lot of money and heartache in the future.

I hope Puss gets well soon.

But its not an undisclosed condition at the time you took out the policy. I take it you have had the policy more than a few weeks - so this is exactly why you got insurance - to cover the unforeseen. No need to worry at all. If you make a claim once it goes over the excess, you will get a form which you and the vet have to complete anyway stating when the condition was first noted and all the costs for it since that time.

Thanks for your responses. Have had policy for a while but quite a large excess and then pay 25% of the cost on top because of his age.

I did read smallprint (i always do on everything) but it doesn't mention reporting anything - just how to make a claim etc etc. the only thing it does say is that i have 12 months to make a claim so we'll see how it all goes.

I'm with petplan, and regularly put in claims covering a good few months with no problem. My vet surgery just makes sure everythings on the form for me, so I don't need to faff around with receipts etc.
With any luck, yours'll be a one off.
I have the mega excess and 20% of the final bill - still worth it for me though most of the time. Mutt doesn't do small claims.:(

Just be warned, that if your pet gets better from this time, and then has the same thing in a years time, you may struggle to get the insurance company to pay out (any insurance co., not just PP) and the vet HAS to declare if they have seen the animal for a similar condition before....
