Yet another kick in the goolies for the tax payers of this country.I know people who are on low incomes and even out of work and can't get Legal Aid.......
My personal view is that I just hope more and more of the general public DO vote ,but vote for the smaller parties and not the big 3..... We need to protest ,so its either that or we ALL spoil the ballot papers.
These 3 and many others like them are certainly not "Right or Honourable".
Always nice to see that old British tradition of fair play and no pre-judging still so widespread....0 -
I would have thought anyone going to crown court would be advised to apply for legal aid; most barristers charge at least £1,500 for half a day at the crown court. Top barristers, like the ones necessary for this case because of the complexity, could easily charge £10k-20k a day.
So really, as they are perfectly entitled to it, and the costs are likely to be high they would be silly not to apply for it.......
Still, I can help feeling they should not have it though....

And I 'can't help feeling' that people are innocent until proven guilty, but then I'm just an old fashioned type not overly given to supporting mob rule.0 -
I would have to ask not to be on the Jury, to be honest, I think they are guilty as sin. There's no way there could be a fair trial with me on the jury. So I can understand where wymondham is coming from... but just because everyone agrees they are guilty doesn't make it so.

D'you know... it's really good for a change to hear someone actually admit to being prejudiced in their views.
Bravo.
Most will not own up to having their outlook coloured by media coverage or running with the mob and will insist that they've given the situation some kind of detached and independent assessment.

legal aid (for general matters) is at a fair level i think- income less than about £16k for a single, raising well into the £20ks for a couple with kids. there is lots of free advice available too.leveller2911 wrote: »Yet another kick in the goolies for the tax payers of this country.I know people who are on low incomes and even out of work and can't get Legal Aid.......
as said criminal is completely different, and imho the legals in such cases are ridiculously overpaid. it is obscene to think how much tax payers money goes on paying for their uber-rich lifestyles. yes, they've studied hard, but 10s of thousands for a few days work?
think some limits should be placed on how much someone can use in public funding each year (lifetime?!). amazing how many times people will drag each other back to court over small claims, custody, 'accidents' if they don't have to pay for any of it.... anywayz, i'm rambling

Why even bother having a trial, they're going to get off scot-free anyway - may as well have just given them a slap on the wrist and a pat on the head and saved the taxpayer some cash.
The enquiry itself has ALREADY cost the police more than £500,000! Now they get legal aid as well, you couldn't make it up.
This is what people will be saying after the event, it's a farce. No one will do time for it as they would if they were us !!!!!!.I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left. :rolleyes:0 -

Absolutely - yet another open and shut case that will be dragged out to the nth degree and then they'll find that it was all a big mistake and no-one was to blame really, those poor MPs just accidently stuffed that cash in their wallets, honest guv.
Mind you, Jonathan Aitken got sent down quite rightly so maybe there is a bit of a precedent for some actual justice - even if the whole episode ends up costing the taxpayer several times more than they actually overclaimed.
I know it's totally off-topic but can anyone believe that they still haven't charged the officer who pushed Ian Tomlinson over at the G20 protests, allegedly contributing to his death yet? An utter disgrace :mad:0 -
Does anyone else thin Morley looks like a baboon ??I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left. :rolleyes:0
