there are now apparently different types of NUS card:
http://www.nusonline.co.uk/cards/
who knew?!
unfortunately they also say on that website:
Q: Can I get a list of all of the student discounts in the UK or my local area?
A: NUS do not have a full list of all UK discounts. However, your NUS Card will get you 10% discount HMV, TopShop and TopMan. You can also get information on the latest national offers by activating your NUS Card, nusonline card or Associate Card with nusonline.co.uk.
NUS do not compile information on local or regional discounts. You may be able to find out information about this through your local students' union however.
Many places offer student discounts independently of NUS too. We recommend that you always enquire whether a student discount is available, prior to purchase, in order to enjoy the full benefits of your NUS Card.
there's the standard things like student entry to the cinema/museums etc, and other shops including la senza, borders (only on designated days though, i think!), maplins and that's all i can come up with right now!:happyhear0 -
do a serach on here...loads of nus stuff has been discussed before0

Don't forget the discount on Apple stuff!!!April Grocery Challenge £81/£1200

Football matches are now common too which I think is the best, get down and support your local club especially if it's lower league. Just ask anywhere though. "Do you do student discount?" soons becomes autopilot for you.0

Yeah that NUS Extra thing is an utter disgrace, don't get it. You have to pay for benefits and discounts you should get already, just to raise some money for an incompetent, unrepresentative and wasteful union that is poles apart from the students it's suppose to represent.
