Internet access on the move

Options
Hi everyone
I need help :o
I'm not all that clued up on the latest technical gizmos and at an age where it is all getting increasingly difficult to understand so please use language for idiots in any advice you are able to give....cheers.

I have a netbook which I purchased specifically to take out with us when we use our little VW campervan. We need to know how best to connect to internet whilst driving around. We both have mobile phones...although hubby's is ancient and needs updating. We are worried about cost of a new contract as at present we only use them for sending texts and occasional phone calls...very few minutes used each month.

I understand about hot spots but not how to find them....and also what if none available in the area?

Is the only other option using the mobile phone and how does that work please?

Thanks for any advice...

Go for a PAYG dongle (basically a tiny USB modem that uses the mobile phoen network to access the internet).
Best deal if you can get it is one of the non-expiry vodafone ones. These are great for occasional use.
Carry on using your existing mobiles for voice and text.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001P6KNQE?ie=UTF8&!!!!!beeandboo-21&linkCode=xm2&camp=1634&creativeASIN=B001P6KNQE

Easy to set up as long as your netbook is running windows
Accessing the web on a £100 PAYG mobile works but the screen is tiny.

    Hello Web Ferret
Thanks for such a quick response. I was just reading about the Vodaphone Dongle as it happens.....trouble is I think they have stopped doing the non-expiry contracts. Thats what I was reading anyway. How can you tell if this is the case? Is there any way of reading the small print prior to buying?
Thanks for the help, much appreciated.

Here is a clean(non affiliate link) to the Vodafone dongle.

The ones with expiry come with 1GB of data, the 30 day expiry have 3GB. The one in the link has 1GB.
If the wrong one arrives, send it back at Amazon's cost and get them to replace or refund. Take a screenshot of the page to confirm what you ordered.

You can also get the non-expiring one from Tesco Direct for £24.99. Make sure it is the K3565 and not the K3565R you get.

It has 1GB of data. Just use it every 6 months to keep it active.

I've got this one and it's great. Really easy to use and I'm surprised how long 1gb lasts (sorry I'm not very techie !).
