Over priced postage?

I won an item on ebay for 99p and was charged £2.99 for postage, Which I wouldn't mind but item was small. It cost the seller 1.39 to post and was sent in recycled packaging. I have left no feedback what would you do???

Unfortunately, even though the postage cost seems a little excessive - they did state the costs before you bid, so it was your choice to pay this amount or not. I would leave positive feedback if all else was ok, but score them low for postage & package charges. HTH

Most people when they are bidding factor in the auction price and the p+p and then if they are willing to pay that, then they bid. You obviously throught the item was worth the price. I would just go ahead and leave positive feedback if you are happy with the item.
Postage and packaging is just that ~ often people include the trip to the post office in it and some people add on a bit for fees.
  • Postage is a big bone of contention for both buyers and sellers, as a seller some buyers forget that the postage charge is also for packaging and I personally factor in a small transport charge, as a buyer you do feel some postage charges are excessive but I try to way these up before I buy the item and take the view of adding it to the auction / buy it now price and if im happy to pay the overall price i dont worry about it.
At the end of the day I would't just negative a seller unless it really is excessive.

It's annoying, but the P&P has to allow for time spent going to the Post Office too. I bought some diet shakes recently, and was charged £8.50 for first class recorded. I expected them to be well packed. They came 2nd class, gaffer taped into a (used) carrier bag, and the cost was £2.60. The sachets were all sellotaped together too, so I had to snip them all apart to avoid ripping and spilling. I haven't left negative, as seller had 100% previously and I thought it might be a one off. Still mulling it over though.

I was disappointed with the item especially when it only weighed 70g The other item they are currently selling they are charging only £2.99 for and that is for a coat.

Sellers shouldn't be building that into post and packing, they;'ll be claiming wages next.

Personally I always use the stars to reflect how happy I was with the postage charged, More than a reasonable percentage over stamp price and I'll leave lower stars, start getting silly with postage and i'll go down to a 3, take the mickey and they'll get a 1*

I am clueless at postage prices, so trust the seller to be accurate. I recently won something for £1.04, which had postage of £4.50. The actual postage cost was just over £1, sent in a jiffy bag, so I marked them down massively on their DSRs!

P&P = postage and packaging. Not time take to go to the post office, parking costs etc...
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Have you asked about a partial refund? I would. They didn't even send it via the service you paid for.

No, I've just left it. I know I should have, I know, but I just felt that lately all I'd been doing was moaning at sellers (with good reason). I'll probably leave a neutral feedback when I've thought about it.

If I was satisfied with the item and I received it promptly, I would leave positive feedback.

£2.99 p&p is not excessive and, from your later comments, maybe it is the sellers standard rate.

Selling for 99p and charging £1.39 postage probably makes it not worth bothering listing low cost items on ebay unlesss you sell large nunbers. Sellers might just as well throw stuff away or donate it to charity.

I applaud the use of recycled packaging. All I want is the item promptly and safely delivered. I don't want or need brand new packaging.

    Ebay is Ebay, not Harrods.
