Is this called for?

I had an ebayer buy 2 items from me with postage costs at £1.50 each, I combined these to £2.50 for the 2 (I.E 50p saving). When I posted them FIRST class it cost me £1.90 for the postage & I put them in a NEW brown envelope which cost me 22p & taped with brown tape all the way round to secure it.

I have now had 2 neutral feedbacks on my account which state :-

Unimpressed with packaging seeing as postage costs quite high. Flimsy envelope

Unimpressed as one of the items was dirty on outside

I have emailed them asking why feedback was left without contacting me first, neither of the items were dirty when I posted them & I don't think me charging £2.50 postage for something that cost me £2.12 for the postage & the envelope is unreasonable?

What do you think?

Can't see that you did anything wrong. Was the item fragile or easily bashed?

  • It was 2 magazines slightly bigger than A4 in size, that's why I had to get a slightly bigger envelope & tape it down all the way round.

Hi, I agree I can't see anything wrong with what you did, also the tape was probaly used to secure the package i'm sure that the buyer thinks that we are using used envelopes when we are not, you were just being careful to make sure the contents don't get lost or damaged.

    I'd leave follow-ups:

Unimpressed that buyer failed to contact me before leaving neutrals
Unimpressed that buyer failed to appreciate very fair P&P

  • Buyer's feedback is 254 100%.

They emailed me through the ask seller a question link before buying (The items were on BUY IT NOW with BEST OFFER) with this question :-

Q: Hello. I was wondering if you would consider an offer on all the Papercraft magazines that you have. What would you accept for all of them including postage as it will be cheaper for you to send all of them at once. Please let me know. There are 13 issues in total. I was thinking £15 including postage and packing. Let me know. You could then end them and put it on as Buy It Now for me.

I answered honestly with this :-

Postage for 13 magazines to UK is £15 for 1st class or £8.50 for Standard Parcels. Please feel free to make me a BEST OFFER on each magazine if you wish to purchase them. Thank you.

Each magazine weighs between 250 & 300 grams. So the price I quoted for postage wasn't unreasonable (1st class postage would have been £14.09, Standard Parcels would have been £7.70 - without packaging!) They then replied saying other sellers sell these @ 1p each + 50p postage so would just buy a few rather than them all. I said they was no way I could post for 50p even via 2nd class (Price would have been between 75p & 88p for postage on ONE magazine that way). Buyer then did a £1 best offer on these 2 which I accepted so final payment including postage was £4.50.

Hi, just read your post. Have you left feedback for them yet ?If not, you can use that as a lever for getting your buyer to retract feedback. Or you could just leave neg feedback for them.... It's normally newbie ebayers that leave neg and neutral feedback without contact to you first, but it doesn't help your feedback score.! U could try contacting ebay for arbitration, although in my opinion they don't like to get that involved... Hope you get problem resolved. Good luck

  • Yes I always leave feedback as soon as payment clears, it's my DH's account & he's always said never to wait until you receive feedback as it can put buyers off leaving for you - does that make sense?

I know I can follow up on there feedback as well as my own which I am going to do.

Very laudable, but it does leave you vulnerable to buyers who feedback first, make contact later.
