Need some advice - Re: DLA/Carers Allowance/ESA

Would be somewhere upwards of £140-150 quid as the EDP would be paid along with the SDP (So long as claimant qualified for the SDP).
I could do a precise calculation but from memory that would be a rough estimate.
Is that dependant on savings like IS or paid anyway because of the DLA award?0 -

premiums are only paid on income based / means tested benefits....
(IS/ESA(income related) / JSA(income based) / Pens Credit Guaranteed Credit)
... and means tested benefits are dependent on savings, so yes to the first.

My husband has been on SSP for months and it has now come to an end so he is being put on ESA. The thing is he still basically has a job waiting when he is well enough to return. Trouble is that I don't think he will ever be well enough to do the tasks that he used to do prior to his brain haemorrhage - he just is not the same person and it is heavy manual work.
He will soon have to let his workplace know whether or not he will be going back. If he doesn't go back, is it very difficult to apply for ESA on a permanent basis and is it dependent upon continually getting sick notes from our GP?
Any advice would be appreciated - thanks.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
ESA is very difficult to get on a long-term basis but there are people that pass the assessment. It is dependent on getting sick notes unless the WCA is passed. My husband has been on SSP for months and it has now come to an end so he is being put on ESA. Is it still like the old system whereby if you were awarded DLA you could claim IS ontop of IB because of the premiums?0 -
Almost. ESA is different in that there is no DP, which would often have brought IS above IB, ESA when the WRAG or SG is awarded will be paid at the same rate of benefit unless SDP/EDP/CP/PP etc. are awarded. Is it still like the old system whereby if you were awarded DLA you could claim IS ontop of IB because of the premiums?
So it reduces the amount of people entitled to passported benefits.

yeh the basics for means tested benefits havent changed, what has changed is ESA has replaced IB/IS for new claims.
so for example if you claimed ESA now and were awarded it contribution based, think of that as IB. then if your income was deemed too low still, the top up would be ESA income related, same as IS.
the slightly different part is ESA has components aswell.
but yeh, the basics of having a means tested benefit & having benefits which warrant premiums (DLA, CA) is still there.0
