Car buisness insurance

Options
Hi all.

Does anyone know of any insurance companies that do fully comp insurance that includes business insurance. My wife has to have business insurance for our car as her work involves business work whilst using our car. We have been on the usual comparison web sites but cannot seem to find companies that offer fully comp which includes business too.

We are currently with L.V although we had a claim for an accident last year it was not our fault and we got all settled and the third party admitted liability and so did his insurance company and all was paid up with our no claims discount intact, yesterday we received our renewal and it has gone up £40 from last year which we are not to happy about so would like to shop around first but cannot seem to find a company which includes the business part of it. We feel it has gone up £40 because of our claim?

Any pointers would be appreciated

Insurance premiums are going up between 15-20% - it's been in the news - so that explains your £40.

As for "business insurance", do you actually know what that means? It shouldn't have any connection with the type of cover you want. Try the FAQ or click the right (correct) button on one of your comparison sites.

What does the internet say that is making things confusing for you?

if you mean cover for driving in connection with your business ... then your wife may need to be the main driver for this. I think in some cases only the main driver can use the car for driving in connection with business.

It's not a type of cover (like third party or comprehensive) but it's a category of use. They normally start with SDP (social, domestic & pleasure) but you can also have commuting to a permanent place of work/study as well, and then you can have travel in connection with your business too as well.

Are you using a comparison site?

From my experience all the comparison sites offer business use on fully comp policies. You have to request/ask for/add it yourself. There is a seperate question for it.....something like 'Do you require business use on the policy' then you have to choose what type of business use you want.

Try LV online and see what they come up with.

Any other major insurance company will do fully comp with business use - I've never had any trouble finding it.

And part of your increase will be due to the accident, regardless of whose fault it was.

Quote. Did not know the preimiums had gone up that much. The buisness insurance does has an effect on our use as my Wife is a nurse in the comunity and her emplyer the nhs states our insurance has to be buisness insurance. We have got buisness insurance now so i do know it has a bearing on the insurance.

Anniecave Hi At the moment i'm the main driver and our insurance comp have me as fully comp my Wife is fully comp/buisness. As long as you state who is using the car for buisness theres no prob.

Shelly Thanks could not find any last year offering buisness so thought i would try asking on here. Just been on a site now and they all seem to be offering buisness cover.

I would think that unlikely, unless the named driver is a spouse, or if the named drivers are using it for the business of the policyholder.

I am a named driver on my fiancee's policy (direct line) and use the car in connection with my job. She called them to check I am covered for business use a few weeks ago and they confirmed I am. They never said anything about it having to be for her business.

Do you think we need to call them again to check this?

You need to check the certificate of insurance.
