I have got so many I keep filling my freezer and having to use them up!
So far I have got wine on the go, three gallons are ready for their second rack and three had their first rack yesterday. I've made 4lb jam, and 4 bottles of cordial, which is so delicious we have already drank 2 bottles!
I'm desperate for my apples to be ready now, so I can try the blackberry and apple leather in the river cottage book, as well as crumbles and chutney.0 -
I'm making the blackberry and apple jelly from the RC book as we speak. The fruit is dripping through the jelly bag and is on one drip every five seconds at the moment! First time I've made jelly for donkey's years :rotfl: :rotfl: . Will have to go blackberry picking again as I'm running out. What's a good recipe for blackberry wine and is it a faff to make?0

I've used this recipe

except with about half the grape juice concentrate as I only had one small tin, and also made some more only with about 250g of raisins in the must instead of the grape juice. I've racked them both recently and they taste pretty similar, but the colour of the one with the juice in is just amazing - a real blackberry colour - rather than the other one which is red. They are both maturing for a few months now, but I have high hopes of them.0 -
well the blackberry vodka is bottled and steeping. Had to get hubby to sort out the berries after soaking in vinegar as bugs are not my thing. He is not a happy hubby.Weight loss to date - 8st 13lbs :j0

Just been shown this thread from the jam thread - I have 10 and a half jars of Bramble jelly from 3 ice cream tubs of blackberries.
Used apples for the pectin - smells delicious! Kitchen looks a mess though (don't tell the flyladies)Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

What a lovely thread, we pick 3lbs yesterday and I have just put them in a fermenting bin. 3lbs is enough to make dry blackberry wine. If anyone wants a simple old recipe from the Boots winemaking book 1978:eek: , just ask.
Am I going back, hell yes, just from reading this thread, this place is a country park with walks all over and there are literally 1000's of the blighters. Our only problem was the kids, the 1 year old hated the buggy and the 4 year old got very fed up very very quickly. We told them to shuddup and carried on:D
I want to make jam, and the vodka as pressies. Will do some ice cream as well, it sounds devine.
I second taking a walking stick, we would have fared much better with one as the biggies are on the top.
We will also go to the woods a bit later on in Sept, as they haven't had the sun. Can't wait.:T0
