Car Insurance advice
I hve been trying to get a reasonable quote for some time now. Situation is, i have been on hubby's insurance as named driver since about 1986. Now separated I am having to start all over again as I have zero no-claims discount due to only being a named driver for that length of time.
Been on GoCompare et al but every time I find a reasonable quote I look on here and find that they are not good peeps to deal with (Swinton, Hastings, 1st Connect). We were with frizzells for donkey's years and they were fine but their quote was astronomical. Last year switched to Churchill but same again for lil ole me.
Can peeps please recommend some decent, unshady insurers that I can check out.
thanks ever so.

Try giving Churchills a ring as they offer the following
Named drivers will earn their own no claims discounts
Churchill now offer your named drivers the opportunity to earn their own Named Drivers No Claims Discounts (NDNCD).
Named drivers can earn their own discount while they remain claim free on your policy. They will be rewarded with up to a maximum of 3 years NDNCD when they take out a Churchill policy of their own. Other insurers may not recognise NDNCD.
The Named Driver No Claims Discount may be lower than the No Claims Discount (NCD) available to you as the policyholder. Once applied to a policy the NDNCD works the same way as NCD in that if you make a claim the NDNCD will be reduced.
"Taking advantage of this deal couldn't be easier. Your named drivers' no claims histories are automatically stored on our system, so when they come to apply for their own policy they simply need to give us your details online or on the phone and we can identify them immediately, at which point they will be able to receive up to a maximum of 3 years Named Driver No Claims Discount on their own policy".

(Churchill and Directline are owned by the same company so you might find DL will also offer you the discount).
Also try ringing Frizzells.
You should also try a local broker (Not swintons) as they can sometimes agree introductory no claims discounts for people in your situation0 -
We switched to Churchills a year ago but their quote for this year with me as the policyholder is huge. I did ask about my one year no claims discount but it ONLY APPLIES TO CHURCHILL policies.
How can you tell which companies are brokers? Peeps say avoid brokers as they add on charges for things. Sorry if I sound clueless; its cos I am...
Frizzells prices shot up hugely last year, hence the switch to Churchills.
I could give them a ring but they seem pretty large and faceless these days, like all other organisations.Try giving Churchills a ring as they offer the following

Apparently Direct Line will give some NCD to people who have been named drivers on someone else's policy - might be worth giving them a call.0

Thanks. Just tried another comparison site and the cheapest quote is from Quoteline Direct. Did a search on this forum and nothing negative has come up.Ellie

When someone says a local broker they mean someone typically on the high street with a shop. Have a look in your yellow pages etc under Insurance Agents or Insurance Brokers. Or you could use this tool http://www.biba.org.uk/ConsumerHome.aspx0

Try A Plan, for reasons that are long forgotten I deal with the Bletchley branch http://www.aplan.co.uk/bletchley.php?int=0
but live know where near. Always give A1 service.
But when my wife finally got her own policy instead of being on her parents they gave her 3years NCB.0 -
That must be the only A plan branch that has a good reputation then0

Try Admiral - son just got a very good quote from them.0

Does it matter if they're brokers if they are the cheapest?
(I've used swintons for years, on and off, never and any problems, either with the high street, online or on the phone)0
