Pressure mounts on "Saint" Vince Cable

As I suggested the other day, it looks like Vince Cable is starting to get a bit of pressure - being treated as a politician rather than the sage avuncular commentator he aspires to be.
JON SOPEL: I mean let’s leave aside whether or whether not there is a black hole in the Tories' finances. Leave that to one side. You don’t know factually, that they are going to raise VAT. That is your conjecture.
VINCE CABLE: It is a conjecture and it’s a reasonable assumption and I wouldn’t claim anymore than that.
JON SOPEL: And that £389 is a rough figure plucked –
VINCE CABLE: It’s a ball park estimate of what it would require in order to fill that gap, and it seems a reasonable way of expressing that argument."
...
JON SOPEL: Would you rule out raising VAT?
VINCE CABLE: No, I don’t. It’s something –
JON SOPEL: So therefore your position is no different to them."

I was amused the other day on Radio 4 when they accidentally introduced Vince as party leader.

The liberals know that they have the luxury of their policies never being put to the test so they can say what they like.0

i think it doesvoluntary - I'm Deputy Chairman of the local Association.
I'm also a District Councillor in North Dorset, elected as a Conservative.
Does that matter?
with the current incumbents it's all too easy but it would be interesting to see if you'd mock David Cameron or Osborne when they're found out...
if you don't, it comes across like you're electioneering on an internet forum.
but you wouldn't do that or would you...0 -

Yet you are fine with yourself thanking rochdales electioneering.
Could come across as you being contradictive on an internet forum.

Not sure I get this. So if I'm not "involved" then I'm allowed to do whatever I like, but if I have put my money where my mouth is, so to speak, then I'm not entitled to voice my opinion? It seems that there are enough astro-turfers from Labour HQ here...
Consistently on this forum there has been the suggestion that Vince Cable is some great champion of the people. I recently noted that he was getting a bit more scrutiny (at which point sometime told me I was being childish) - so it seemed appropriate to flag up when that scrutiny had indeed come to bear.
I wasn't mocking - I don't really do that, it seems a bit distasteful. I suspect that this close to an election I'm less likely to go off beam, and will probably duck the debate, because anything off-message would probably be used against me. If - rather than when, by the way - Cameron and Osborne in time do something daft I will be honest in my response to it - kind of the same way I am in the pub, at work, or with friends.0 -
All politicians are lying f*cking thieves.
Vince Cable lost all credibility when he said he agreed northern rock should be nationalised.

you're the man that thought Amsterdam was a country outside of the Netherlands
and
also tried to argue that the Chancellor of the Exchequer worked in the financial sector in the City.
i know you don't have a clue, you know you don't have a clue but you like to try and cover yourself. :wall:
best leave it there...0 -
oh i'm very sure that you do get it and that's why you're going to duck out on this one because your subtle little strategy has been exposed... what a surprise :eek:Not sure I get this.
