Contact them in writing, citing the invoice number, and clarify you have already settled payment for the work done.

Include your cheque number and any details of who you spoke to.

Make sure you make it clear the invoice is Disputed in your letter / email.

If they threaten legal action or whatever, you would probably be okay to ignore everything up to a court order, at which point you would have a solid case for non payment - providing you can back up your details.

Good luck - hopefully they'll just drop it when you contact them.
  • Can it be considered a quote when the OP was told "it may come to a bit more"?
    Sounds more like an estimate.

Doesn't matter - as I said above, once you've paid, that's it. The contract is complete.

As said, it sounds like a representative of the company accepted full and final payment. That's vicarious liability.

Whilst windscreen claims may not affect your NCB, it should still be declared as a claim at renewal/quote.

Never ever get these national chains to do a windscreen if you are paying for it yourself. They just seem to think of a number and double it. Search out some small local independents.

I agree my daughter needed her corsa windscreen replacing due to a crack and they quoted her 220 I rang round and got it done for 90 brilliant saving and only made two phone calls :j

They gave you an invoice after the job for £178, paid in full.

Tell them to get stuffed asking for more after the event.

A similar thing happened to my mum many years back, B&Q accidentially charged her 99p for a Christmas tree when it should have been £99. It was paid by card and she didn't even noticed, they called her demanding the remaining £98.01 and she told them to get lost. The poor girl who had called her then actually congratulated her for doing so and admitted they had no right to ask for the extra money.

What sort of car was it where a Windscreen costs £618???

I had a look at online windscreen suppliers and the most expensive I saw was £250 (BMW X5)

£850 +VAT for my 1993 Nissan Cefiro, and that's just for the part from Nissan.

Yes I have windscreen cover :)

CHR15 was probably meaning UK models, the Cefiro was a grey import in the UK, Nissan UK are probably just being a little vindictive to owners of a model they didn't sell.

I was wondering when someone was ask this, ;) Jeeez, what sort of car was it? My missus actually works for the outfit concerned, but not billing, I know what they cost on average.

What was the reason for not using your insurance op, asuming you had some ;);)

And unless it's something very exotic, AW will produce the windscreen in their own premises.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

    Hello

I'm looking for a bit of advice about an invoice that we've received. We needed a replacement windscreen for our car and rang Auto Windscreens for a quote. They quoted £178 which we thought was ok. When they rang to confirm the booking, they thought we might have been underquoted slightly and said that it may come to a bit more. We weren't paying on our insurance as we're trying to build our no-claims bonus up so were just going to pay ourselves for the windscreen.

They came out to fix it and the fitter had £178 on his job sheet. He did say 'oh, that seems a bit low, but as it's what's on the job sheet, that's what I'll be charging.' We paid him a cheque for the full amount and he signed the work sheet to show we'd paid.

We thought that was the end of it, but now nearly 2 weeks later, we've received an invoice from Autowindscreens for £618 and it says we need to pay straightaway!!! There's no mention of the £178 that we've already paid and they have never mentioned to us that we would have to pay any more money!

Can they do this?? We're really reluctant to pay as it's a lot of money and if we had known it was going to be that much at the time, we would never have got it done!!!!

Their billing department isn't open until tomorrow but I would really appreciate some advice before I ring them. I'm hoping that they won't be able to make us pay as we were never told that it would be this much, but any advice you can give would be really helpful!!

    Thanks xx

I had a similar thing with septic tank co, wanted more money after paying what was on the bill. Checked with trading standards who said that as I had paid the amount the contract stated that was it. Told the co. that I would not be paying any more as I had paid what I had contracted for and the contract had ended.
They kicked up a bit of a stink but stood my ground.
To ask for more after both parties had completed their side is (I believe) not allowed.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

I don't think that's relevant once they've paid the first invoice they received from the fitter. The contract is now completed. The windscreen co can't add any further terms thereafter,
