I able to deal with the jealousy but my partner cant and is it gets him down and nothing I can do seems to help :-(
  • Thanks OP for being so honest as to post this message. I feel jealous sometimes of the other mums at the school gates as they have caravans in Wales they can go to whenever they like, one of them just got back from Dubai, they eat nice food etc. None of them are stinking rich, they just have more than me. But yes, we do have to learn to appreciate what we have I guess. Some days that is harder than others :)
:D Skint but happy with my lovely family :D

My Uncle once said that being jealous only affects you, not the person who it is aimed at. How true, so how do I slay the green eyed monster

    Your uncle was absolutely right!

There will always be people with more money than you. Fortunately for the lower earners among us, being rich is not on it's own a guarantee for happiness, and it certainly is no guarantee of health. Imagine for a moment you had just 24 hours to live - do you think that in this time you would think time spent thinking jealous thoughts would have been well spent?

For me the problem is looking around and seeing everyone else have a life and me not.

I know that this sounds selfish, and compared to others we are okay- but for me the emotional side of debt weighs heavier that the actual debt.

    Am I alone in this???

    Hi jdvhsully,

I hope the debt busting is going well for you. First of all, no you're not alone in feeling the emotional heavy burden. I often feel like I'm weighed down and miserable because there are so many things I just can't do whilst I'm paying off the debt. But I try to take heart from the fact that at least my debt is going down at a good rate and I have a target date, albeit a couple of years from now.

As you can see, I'm in more debt than you but when it's paid off, a better lifestyle and a lot of choices will open up to me with the added benefit of being that much wiser financially. And the same is true for you.
In the mean time, it's best to try and keep your mind focused on other cheap/free activities/experiences and not thinking too much about the debt and what you can't do (which I am guilty of too).

    Hi,

More debt probably. Wait until the first one of 'the clan' is re possessed and then they will be pitied rather than envied.
