Dr Cox speaks with a passion and enthusiasm that you can't help but find infectious.

Did you know he wrote and produced that dance tune New Labour adopted -'things can only get better'. Surprising I thought - can't imagine him into club music!

Yep, massive rises in oil prices post peak-oil will be the catalyst for the Long Emergency. Artificial fertilizer too costly, international transport too costly, commuting from suburbs too costly, energy intensive industry too costly, ...Take away cheap oil and Western society falls apart.

Many of these problems already have solutions there is just a lack of individual and / or government will to change things. Take away cheap oil and people appreciate more the difference between needs and wants.

Did anyone here watch "The sky at night"?
It wasn't my cup of tea, but hats off to Sir Patrick Moore for the energy and enthusiasm he portrayed.

If everyone put as much energy and enthusiasm into the things they did, the world would be a far different place.

Going back many years ago. I had a mate who worked for the met office. From time to time he had to ring up Patrick Moore who had a great answering machine.

" Hello, it`s Patrick Moore, I`m not in, I`m out. Good bye."
