Problem with freeview in dvd recorder but not freeview box?

Options
Hi
I have a dvd/hdd recorder with integrated freeview which for some reason is coming up with no service or bad signal for nearly all the channels but the bbc ones and some random ones like itv3 and yesterday! Next to it is a separate freeview box which picks up all the channels without a problem.

It has only been the last month or so but today it is at it's absolute worse. Obviously I can't record anything from the bad signal channels because they are unwatchable which is very frustrating as it is our only means of recording.

If you have any advice I would be most grateful, thanks.

Are both devices run from the same aerial feed? If they are then what service/signal do you get if you just connect the Freeview recorder on it's own?
If each device is run from separate aerials then what happens if you switch the aerials?

It would be easier to offer advice if you could explain how your devices are connected.
  • Hi Scotsbob, the separate freeview has the main aerial plugged into it and I think there is then an aerial lead going between the freeview and the dvd recorder. They are both connected to the tv ( which about 10 yrs old) by scart leads seprately. There is a slightly better picture on it today but still not perfect. I have been told the main mast in the area is being worked on I assume for the switchover, but it doesn't make sense that the single freeview box downstairs and the one upstairs are picking up a signal fine but the dvd recorder isn't??

I hope this all makes sense, I am not the most technical of people, thanks for your input.

I would suggest you have the aerial going into your Freeview box, then to the DVD and then to the TV

Your Freeview box should have two scart sockets one marked "Out to TV" (or similar) and one marked "Out to video/DVD"

Scart from "Scart Out to Video/DVD" of Freeview box to "Scart In" of DVD
Scart from "Scart Out" of DVD to one of the TV Scart sockets.
Scart from "Scart to TV" from the Freeview box to the second TV Scart socket
  • I was going to try this until I realised I needed another scart lead. Will get one and try it, thanks again scotsbob.

My money would be in going to the HD/DVD recorder first (as that is the one you are going to record on) but agree with Scotsbob!
