Been paying for broadband I haven't used, can I claim it back?

I have been paying £20 a month for AOL Broadband at one address since 2003, and at another since 2007, so £40 a month total. I have not used either service as I am with a different internet provider at the first address, and I vacated the second in 2007.

I have been paying it monthly on my credit card, only now have I realised that I have not been using the service.

Would it be possible for to claim back all, or some of the money?

In a word no. It's entirely down to you to inform the ISP that you no longer require their service. How did you get into a situation where you have had two providers at the same address?

    Hello.:)
Someone I work beside took o2 broadband and tried to set it up and couldn't. Think it was problems with the laptop and he is not great with even the WWW never mind anything else.

They were charging him £5.99 a month for a year by direct debit. He had phoned them about his mobile account and something was mentioned about broadband. He told them he never had broadband. And then he realised he had been paying for about 12 months. How he didn't realise before then I don't know.

Anyhoo... they refunded him his money without much of a fuss as they saw the service was never used. I don't know if this is unusual/particular to o2/just a good operator at the o2 helpline.

But, hope that helps in some way and good luck. :)

    Excellent thank you.

Put simply, I did know I was paying it, but I thought it was £20 a month for each email account which I didn't want to close, when it turns out the email account is free and I was actually paying for a broadband subscription!

When you go to the AOL email page it states:
    Get a FREE email account
I cannot understand how you could miss this?
    Gone ... or have I?

I hate AOL, how they can charge £20 a month for dialup its rediculous. We have a simular problem at one of my businesses. We took over an AOL account from the previous occupiers of the building, but soon after lost the login details.
We rang AOL and they can't find the account, we then spoke to the bank who have said the only way we can stop being charged is if we close the account down and re-open another one, which is a big hassle as we have overdrafts and loans attached to account.
Its crazy even when we get sent new debt cards the payment just transfers onto one of the new cards, so 6 years later were still being charged £20 a month. £1440 out of pocket so far and counting..
  • Of course you can claim back. i would go even further and go to your school, because they obviously failed you in 11 years of education as well.

Well, you must be a soft touch if you have not put a stop to it in all that time.

So basically you are saying that the problem can be resolved by closing down the account as suggested, but it is 'too much hassle' to do so.
No problem, just carry on as you are (i.e. !!!!ing your money up the wall).
