Hi there,
Hope someone can advise. I'm in the middle of moving house and will be in rented accomodation for about 3/4 months.
My husband and I both need internet access for work, but we don't want to have to necesarily have a phone line/contract.
Can we get something to use for each laptop? Ie a dongle? Can the presense of one dongle be used for 2 laptops at one time?
What sort of deals are there out there?
Hope to hear from you.

Only one laptop per dongle! But you could get a wi-fi router to give access for both.
Edit: apologies, that should have read mobile broadband router. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
You can get prepaid dongles from 3, with an allowance of 1/3/12 gb. They will last for 1/3/12 months or until the allowance has run out. The 12gb has come down to £69.99 - I paid £149.99 in 2008. They also offer PAYG dongles, which you top up.
3 also offer something called MiFi, which may allow you to use 2 laptops. Perhaps for 3 months the expense isn't worth it.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

You can get a mobile wireless router, however from an economic and practicality point of view, just get two PAYG dongles.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0

I'm pleased with my Three PAYG dongle.
Good price, good connection.
I Would NOT recommend vodafone - they took 2 weeks to send out a dongle, and ignored my e-mails.0 -
we are in the same position re having just moved house.
Both my husband and I, bought a 3 mobile dongle on friday and have to say I am delighted with the speed ( faster than our sky broadband ever was!) am now thinking of staying on a dongle rather than paying for a land line and internet connection - we both have lots of free minutes to use on our mobiles thus dont really need a landline so might work out cheaper in the long run?0 -
I agree about the 3 dongles: I have used nothing else since 2008. I cancelled my landline and have a cheap PAYG mobile phone - very MSE. I can manage on an allowance of 1.5gb per month.
However, anyone who downloads music, plays games and watches lots of YouTube and movies may not be happy with the speed and will soon use up the allowance.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

I agree.
I use a friend's Vodafone dongle and it's been a mixed bag. Initially was blazing fast but now intermittently good.
It's an excellent stop gap measure though. Only downside as Pluto says is download limit. I tore through 2gb in 7 days and now have to manage 1gb between now and whenever my landline gets activated, then wait for BB ...
I pray to God that it's not longer than 2 weeks in total!
I might have to get my own dongle.....Tough times never last longer than tough people.0
