Morses Club - threatening letter received addressed to unknown person

What they did to deserve that was not get their facts right and hounded me for money I did not owe. They have yet to explain how the error occured.
They didn't hound you for money, they hounded Carol Wilson, who I presume did owe them money. You didn't have to open the letters, you could have put them straight in the bin.
Edit:
Ooop, sorry didn't see the same reponse from Apples2Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
You are totally right mate. I should have  but having gone down the route I did, and contacting the company to advise of the error I expected some help and I got none at all. They appeared to think I was lying to them.
Yes they would because they probably have loads of calls from people saying "you have the wrong address/house/country/person".
If it was as easy as just ringing up and informing them "not known at this address" then anyone who has credit agreements/loans etc. could walk away from £10,000s of debt.0 -

Guys, As per my original post i DID open the original letter as I could clearly see it was a default notice to my address and it scared me.
Accept probably wrong thing to do but I wanted to make contact with them to reiterate that they had the wrong details and find out how/why. To me, sticking back in the post could have been something a debtor may have done to defer action against them.
I gave them my details, phone number etc and explained that I'd lived at the same address for 20 years and no one of that name had ever lived at this address. I'd also checked my credit record and there was nothing recorded re checks, agreements ..anything relating to this company. So total mystery.
They advised they would investigate. I then started to receive calls from them demanding payment...my fault, I'd willilngly given them my phone number in my call. They asked for me by name ie not Carol Wilson
Further mails arrived..all addressed to Carol Wilson. I opened them again, sorry if this was wrong.
I called them again and it was only when I asked for details of their Data Protection policy and officer details and threatened court action did I receive a written apology ( no details though).
Ive probably handled the whole thing wrongly but it was scary0 -
Thanks for updating, most new posters don't bother. To stick up for the OP a bit, there have been a few posts on here where loan companies and bailiffs etc have refused to believe or even investigate when they have got the wrong person. I suppose they get so many defaulters they don't believe anyone.
Of course, it is foolish to sign up for any loan that you can't pay back, but I would lpersonally like to see these high interest doorstep lenders, and bailiffs, more rigorously regulated, if only to protect people from their own desparate and stupid actions. I'm glad you got it sorted out anyway.0 -
Thank you for updating us myrubyred, it certainly generated some interesting points from many sides! LOL0
