I do not have Microsoft Word and wondered if there is a free download similar to Excel?

Will second OpenOffice, use it every day with my college work and to me it's just as good as Office just without the price tagSealed Pot Challenge Member 1216 -

Yep defo open office
(it also converts MS to OO and back again if you need to which makes it very helpful)If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly

Jake'sGran - I'm pretty sure you have downloaded and used OpenOffice in the past.
Microsoft Office is a family of programs that includes a word processor program (Microsoft Word) and a spreadsheet program (Microsoft Excel) amongst other things.
OpenOffice is a similar (but free!) family of programs that also includes a word processor program (Writer) and a spreadsheet program (Calc).
If you have downloaded OpenOffice in the past you will already have what you're looking for - OpenOffice.org Calc
Try looking in Start > All Programs > OpenOffice.org > OpenOffice.org Calc0 -
Open OfficeA fool may give advice but the one who takes it is the bigger fool.0

Thank you all. I do have Open Office but seem to remember that I could not find an Excel type system included in it. I always feel silly when someone reminds me about things i.e. Firefox. I am getting a bit forgetful but the Techies always forgive me for it!0

Open Office Calc.
If you just want a spreadsheet Gnumeric may be an option, it is available for Windows as well as Linux details here:
http://projects.gnome.org/gnumeric/downloads.shtml
If you want a reasonable lightweight wordprocessor also then Abiword also is available for Windows here:

hope this helps0 -
It is called 'OpenOffice Calculator'

Thanks for pointing that out.
Unfortunately they appear to have misspelt it in the software -
Do you think you could also mention it to the developers as they've got it wrong on their website -
And while you're at it could you correct the Wikipedia entry?
Strange how so many people could have got it so wrong
Oh and welcome to MSE
