I thought you could customise the way listings are displayed? - last time I looked, I think it had defaulted to the nearest seller for some reason!

A buyer can reset defaults for searching BIN and ordinary auctions, but not shop items. Until recently shop items were shown at the foot of the page in time remaining order but now they don't automatically show at all unless the searched category only offers a few returns.

Any shop items being returned in a general search will also be in price order, which rather suggests to me that ebay are pushing people into low prices and high P and P for some reason

  • I feel that ebay are trying to get the fees up in line with what they want to charge when ebay express goes live and I would not be suprised if they force most of the shops to go over to ebay express.
Do you have to be registered as a business with ebay to have one of their shops?
I think they are trying bring back the ebay experience by pushing all the shops over to ebay express. I do feel that there are to many shops on ebay now.
It's like the addage of the boot sale, too many market traders there now making it feel like your walking around a market and not a boot sale.

Hmmm, I hadn't come across EBay Express before - thanks doingwhatican - definitely looks like the sort of thing EBay would try & do, otherwise they have 2 systems competing against each other - this is going to get interesting!

Have any members with shops been approached by EBay to transfer?

There is a discussion here the explains the pros and cons of ebay express.
A few people got literature in about ebay expressbut I personally am not intereasted for the reasons previousily stated on the other thread.
I am not sure of the impact ebay stores will have, and am not 100% sure what the diferance in fees so am still wavering about wether to shut my shop.

    Hi,
I just thought I'd post what I think on the ebay fees.

When they first changed the fees originally a few months ago. It was great for me. Even with the higher final value fee, the increased exposure meant I was saving a lot a month on fees and still selling the same.

I personally think the change back is a big con and was originally planned by ebay.

They increase their FVF but you get extra exposure, sounds good to me and people don't compain. They take away the extra exposure but leave the FVF still high, how does that work?

I think it's all a way to increase the fees without us really noticing and push shops off ebay.

I checked out the express thing briefly. It seems OK if you you can sell in your shop under those conditions (and they automatically get put into express). That's how I assumed it worked but I didn't pay that much attention to it. I think I binned what they sent me through the post.

It does seem ebay wants to get back to the original auction days. What a shame.

I can understand wading through all those listings when shop listing were included would have been a nightmare but if you refine you searches it's OK.

I wonder what ebay will do next?
  • eBay express seems like a good idea.

However, it's the returns policy that really puts me off. I do not offer a returns policy. If I did, the nature of my items means that I would more than likely lose a lot of money. But, I do accept returns if I have made a mistake.

If eBay make returns optional on express, then I would consider going on there.
  • Ebay have to stipulate the returns conditions as that because if you are a business selling via mail order ( which is effectivly what it is ) the consumer has the right to return the item within 7 days for whatever reason at their own expense unless it is faulty or not as described then you have to pay for the return postage as well.
As for the fees difference between ebay and ebay express they are the same, hence pushing up the shop fees now so that when ebay express goes live it looks like they are doing you a favour by not charging you any more to list on ebay express.
  • I was just going to post when i came across this thread.

I run a shop as a bit of a hobby, just to clear out bits and bobs. i don't mind paying higher fees, but since the changes came in sales are down 70-80%.

I've had the ebayexpress blurb through but from what i can see in the US it has been rubbish and so over here i don't think it will do well.

I'm just listing more stuff as fixed price auctions to drive traffic to the shop and letting stuff sell more slowly, as any level of sales are fine for me (not a main sales channel), but if it was, I'd be really concerned.

Unless ebay make some changes back to how it was, shops as a viable business shops will be dead for many people. Shame.

    HI
I have cancelled my shop - I wonder if I was a bit hasty, but I can always start it again and I too sold lots on Saturday and nothing on Sunday which is completely the wrong way around. That was with BIN, so maybe ebay was just a bit odd this w/e
  • Since I started this thread I have sold 3 on Sunday & 2 yesterday, really hope things start to pick up!
