TBH though Tesco did pay for repairs etc - and it wasn't their fault...

They did, but they didn't provide free courtesy cars.

    I just avoid them all.

Tesco is often more expensive than my village filling station in any case.

    Every little bit helps.. :D

Yeah that is a point - Tesco here have been more expensive than even other supermarkets here consistently for months now!

Yawn. Not this question again. OP if you use the search function you will find a thread containing this debate in much greater detail.

I've noticed that too. And its not just locally, I've noticed it all over the place.

I'm using Shell for petrol now - they are the same price as supermarkets yet I recieve "Drivers Club" points which I think are equal to 1p/litre and Barclaycard Freedom points which are equal to 1p/£1.

I must admit the nearest Shell always seem to be the most competitive, always full of taxis which is a good sign.
  • I thought it was all the same, my tesco is filled by esso anyway.
I always use normal unleaded and never premium but thats because my car dosent have a knox sensor.
As for aditives I never thought about it, my tank of petrol only last a few days so i dont give it much thought!

    Dear Rev

I did search - went back to the beginning of the year on this forum and found nothing.

No-one's forcing you to read the thread! Anyway, haven't you got tomorrow's sermon to prepare?:)

i used to fill up at my local supermarket because it was cheapest. then my car developed some faults with the exhaust system. after that i only bought from garages like Shell, BP, Esso, and had no problems

recently i was forced into using a supermarket forecourt again (just the once), and within 100 miles, my car was running like a donkey, finally died, and i had to be towed to a garage. resulting in expensive repairs

could be coincidence, but id rather not take the chance again

Everytime the mechanics at the garages have asked me where i filled up, and they all said that supermarket fuel was !!!!, and best avoided

I've been trying to find something a bit more definitive on this topic myself recently, so +1 from me for OP raising it; not sure why some have a problem with it.

From what I've come across while looking into this (on other forums), yes it does all come from the same refinery. But the general consensus seems to be that what differentiates between different supermarkets/shell/BP etc etc is the additives.

I won't pay ridiculously over the odds to fill up, but have tended to favour "psychologically better" petrol stations like Shell since I changed my car last month.

I filled up with Super Unleaded for the very first time today ahead of a long run tomorrow, to try to see for myself whether there's a difference/how much of a difference in the Standard vs Super Unleaded stakes too.
