No way of storing the excess units Andy?
Unfortunately there is no way of cheaply storing electricity! A battery is too expensive and doesn't have enough capacity.
You can 'dump' excess electricity into a hot water tank; but the 'mechanism' to detect when you are generating in excess of your household requirements is sophisticated and thus expensive.
You can't just switch on a 3kW immersion heater as that will use expensive 'mains' electricity much of the time.0 -
No way of storing the excess units Andy?
Following on from Cardew's post above. My intention is to run my ASHP in the afternoon every day to fill the hot water tank which will last me for the evening and a shower in the morning - so free hot water. I will also make a point of running the dishwasher & washing machine during the day, rather than in the evening as I currently do. I'll certainly use the 50% that the energy companies base their export calculations on, maybe a little more, especially as I work from home so have lights, A/C and computers on most days.0 -
Yep...sounds like a plan! There are three types of people in this world...those that can count ...and those that can't!
