Has anyone started exploring Feed In Tariffs yet?

I am with Eon and wondering how they deal with electricity generated from a solar system? I am in the throws of getting quotes with a view to having a system installed soon.

Has anyone already done this - maybe the Eon reps know the answers?

Do Eon fit an export meter or, like some other supplies, assume that "x" amount of power generated by the system is exported?

Andy have a look at Scottish and Southern, from what I have gleaned they have it sorted.

    Thanks Albyota, useful document.

I'm hoping Eon have something similar or can at least accommodate FITs (I think they have to actually?) as I don't want to have to change suppliers too - in fact, I like Eon, I've had nothing but good service to date- just that their website only seems to mention how they deal with system they have installed, not ones installed by third party suppliers.

I have filled in Eons "call back" form though, so will see what happens and update here accordingly.

For all eligible devices, the export payment is fixed at 3p per kW. Depending on the size of your device, you may also need an export meter to measure how much electricity you sell back to the Electricity Network. If this is required, we'll contact you to arrange for an export meter to be fitted when we have received your application.

You provide us with quarterly meter readings, which we use to calculate your FiT payment. We'll then pay this directly into your nominated bank account.

You’ll need to supply us with quarterly readings from your relevant meters so that we can calculate your FIT payments. We’ll then pay these into your nominated bank account when due.
We can supply and install both generation and export meters*, so please contact us for details.
    * There is a charge for this service.

Ah, that's useful - have you got a link? Perhaps from there I can work out how to sign up as an exporter?

So now the question is, do I need an export meter for a 3KW system and how much do they charge to fit one?

    From EST

Will you need to install a new meter?
    • Total Generation Meter: Most tariffs will require you to have an Ofgem approved Total Generation Meter which should be installed with your system. Total Generation Meters give a running total of the electricity generated by the system in kilowatt-hours (kWh).
    • Export Meter: Most export tariffs require you to have an export meter installed. Some companies will pay for the meter and its installation whereas others may charge you. It is important that you establish the costs before agreeing a contract.

Good detective work Albyota! The document both confirms I do not need an export meter as Eon will assume 50% export and gives me a telephone number to call Eon with regards applying for FITs. Thank you :)

    Hi Andy_WSM,

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner, I wasn’t in over the weekend. I’m glad you got the answers from albyota’s link though.

If you have any other questions about FIT’S with E.ON these should be directed to the FIT helpline on 0845 301 4884.

Thanks Brian :) Yep, done all the reading up I need to now. Just waiting for a couple more quotes for a system. I have also given Eon the opportunity to quote.
